Beta on dive and kayak guides in La Paz, Baja CA

Mrs. Bobski and I are headed to La Paz in southern Baja at the end of November. Never been there before. We want to dive at El Bajo and Los Illotes, and do a little coastal kayak exploring. The wife's idea of roughing it is a hotel without turndown service, so overnight camping at Illotes is a non-starter.

Anybody have recommendations for dive and kayak outfitters/guides there? Restaurants, other stuff to do (besides der poopenhausen)?

    Thanks for the help

    Bob

www.bajaex.com I met Carlos (son of founder) in Pascuales a couple years ago. Seemed like a nice enough guy and his fathers operation seems pretty thorough.
Putting the "core" in corporate, one turn at a time.

We didn't dive, but when I went there we stayed at La Concha http://www.laconcha.com/. There was a dive shop out on the point.
http://www.cortezclub.com/. We liked the hotel. It's a little out of town, but that can be a good thing. For someone who doesn't want to rough it at all, this place would do it. It's got waiters on the beach and all that stuff. Pretty nice.

I love La Paz. It's a real city. Not too touristy. The restaraunt at the hotel was OK. Had a couple of nice meals at the spots on the sea wall in town, but I don't remember names. The best meal I had was actually on the beach at Tecolote. It was an old bus body sitting on the beach with seating out in front of it. Damn that was a good day...

I second that recommendation. Super people at Baja Expeditions. Carlos's father Tim is a La Paz institution.

Try Il Rustico Trattoria for a great Italian meal.

I dove a dozen or so dives with these guys Dec/Jan 2008/2009. http://www.buceocarey.com/ Great staff and the meals were great. Usually would pull up on one of the white sand beaches on isla partida to eat. Didn't get out to el bajo because of weather but got plenty of dives in at los islotes. Dove three of the wrecks in between los islotes and town. Was down there for a month. Let me know if you need and recommendations for anything else down there.
