Going through the same thing when I got my BO 118. My 21 Wildcats weren’t used at all last season as the BO 118 are much more versatile. I even picked up a backup pair of them at 45% last Spring from Tatum Monod’s family store thanks to a Corbetts price match.
Picked up a set of Sender Free 110 off my Corbetts contact this summer that I know I’ll love too. Almost exact same rocker profile, effective edge and flex pattern(just a bit stiffer throughout) to the BO 118. They won’t have the same mass but the rubber damping tip/tail does extend into the tip/tail area which was a concern of mine and the air tip makes the swing weight insanely low. Think they will be awesome in the trees!
Awesome quiver btw!
Like the BO 118, the heavy builds 21 CT 2.0 and CT 1.0 made me eliminate my former Enforcer 104/93, Rustler 9, Kendo 88, Menace 98, Fisher 102 FR etc.
Disappointing they only made these for 1 year before their weights dropped 400gr the next year and glad I have backups of both.
hm, interesting - it seems we are thinking similar thoughts here
Supposedly there is a Sender Free 102 coming next season.
I am running BlackOps98 in this quiver slot for the coming season, planning to potentially replace it with a SF102 if that ski materializes. I did not really care for BO98s mounted -2, so will try them on the line this time around![]()
Already have the 21 CT 3.0 in 184cm and 190cm and the 184cm version is shockingly similar specs to the 184cm Sender Free 110 so I know I’ll like it. A bit softer tip/tail and stiffer underfoot in the Sender Free and adds rubber which that CT model doesn’t have. Went -2.75cm back on the Sender Free(-6.1cm total) which is still about .5cm in front of my 184cm CT 3.0 mount and the same as where I have the 190cm and it’s perfect there. Have my BO 118 at -2.5cm which is also money.
What don’t you like about the BO 98 at -2cm? That’s -6.7cm IIRC and that should be good for a directional skier on that ski I would think.
My more symmetrical 183cm 21 CT 2.0 is similar but adds another sheet of metal underfoot, heavier core, more rubber, longer turn radius and is 2300gr(just under 2400gr in the 188cm). I doubt the Sender Free 102 will be as heavy or damp but one can hope!
I plan to go -2 on le SF110s.
BO98s were just hard to ski and submarined easily for me at -2 in soft snow. I think the issue had more to do with how I skied them than that the skis are poor off piste (based on most reviews). I plan to use the new pair as an exclusive hard/shit snow ski and use le SF110s as the daily driver, so though I should give them a try on the line. I can always remount back if that is what is needed.
Something sounds up on that pair of BO 98 as they shouldn’t be a demanding ski and should float decently at -2cm. Sounds like it might have been edge high which would make any ski more demanding. All my BO 118and Sender Free 110 have needed either grinding and lots of hand tuning to perfect. The Sender Free 110 tips/tails side edges weren’t even hit for the first foot in!
I’d still go back from rec in the BO 98 for more stability and better carving capabilities and get the tune checked on the next set.
What do you mean weren’t hit?? On my SF the top 12” or so seemed to have been defined and the base edge appears to be increased to 1.5 degrees. You experienced the same?
No, 0 degree side edge near the tips/tails!
Had a set of Head eTitans that were like that but even worse. Went from 2 degrees on the side underfoot to 0/not hit by the machine over a foot above and below the tips/tails on the Heads.
The VERY tops of the tips/tails of the Sender Free were rounded properly but there was still some edge above the taper point that I took care of myself.
My Sender Free bases were flat and base bevel close to 1 tip to tail at least.
hm, could be. I found them to be a lot of work to ski off piste, whereas MF99s were a lot better. It could be that the main culprit is that I just prefer wider platforms, but the tune might have made things worse too.
I will give my new pair a going over and a go and take it from there. Thanks for the suggestion![]()
Cleaning out the gear room today and decided to get the kids together for a pic.
Left to Right -
192cm Atomic Bent Chetlers - Low tide resort pow sticks / Rock skis. Need to find some cheap pivots or fks and remount these. Pretty beat up but just too damn fun to ever get rid of.
192cm ON3P Billy Goat 110's - Picked these up late last season from a mag. Likely to become my new resort DD. Got a pair of raw pivots waiting to go on these. Gonna be looking fresh!
185cm Blizzard 0G 95's - Hard snow / Spring touring / Go-far mission skis.
189cm ON3P Billy Goat Tour 108's - Main touring ski for most days / conditions.
191cm Volkl Katana - Low Tide / Variable & chop resort chargers.
190cm Moment Deathwish 112's - Current daily driver for resort days.
187cm Praxis Protest - Pow day resort boards. Custom topsheet, stock layup.
180cm Voile Swallowtail Splitboard - For the Mega Deep days but also the high Avy danger pow days when you gotta stick to low angle.
165cm Venture Odin - Low Tide / Rock splitboard
166cm Venture Paragon - Everyday DD splitboard for whatever conditions.
166cm Cardiff Goat - Another late season pick up last spring. Gonna be the new DD split once we get a good base. Psyched to get on this one!
165cm Lib Tech T Rice Pro - Resort snowboard
162cm Never Summer Heritage - Rock board, mostly decommissioned at this point
Very nice quiver.
I could whittle that down to these and be quite happy:
- BG Tours
- Katanas
- Protests
- 180 Voile Splitter
Yes very nice UpperDaze
If were talking pairing down Island Bay, I could easily have just two, the Katanas, then the BG110s with Duke PT16
Pairing down? That’s not the kind of talk I come to TGR for… you all are supposed to tell me what else I need. I’m thinking -
-125+ waist touring skis
-carving skis for Uber hard pack
-190+ mono split ski
Mostly inbounds:
183 CT 1.0
184 Dev
186 Bodacious
186 Renegade
184 Reckoner 122
192 Mfree 108
Haven't skied the Reckoners or Mfrees yet. If I could only have one, it would be the Dev hands down, but I bet the Mfree will contend for that spot! CT 1.0, Dev, and Bodacious compliment each other well. Renegade is a whole 'nother animal.
Wild snow:
187 C113
184 Cham HM 107
185 Declivity
179 Mythic 97
Haven't been on the HL C113 yet. I'm hoping it reminds me of the Bodacious. I could be happy with just the two Dynastars--both are versatile and do a lot of things well. The Declivity is less so, but it rips in spring conditions and is much more confidence inspiring when it's steep and firm.
Thrift store vintage quiver:
183 Axiom
190 AK Launcher
188 Merlin IV
207 Extreme
The SR105 are new to the quiver. The SR95 and BMX105 are my wife's skis. The better question is how will I choose between the ax108 and the SR105? The answer is That I hope to ski the SR105 most everyday, because it is best suited to my skiing style. I think that when the snow is hard pack, I will ski the MX89. Eight times out of 10, when the snow is soft, or fresh up to 6" then I will ski the SR105. The other 2/10 when I'm a bit tired and don't care about what my turns look like, I will ski the zx108. Otherwise, they will be used as a spare for friends (thus the demo clamps), and early season skis. The Bodacious are for big storm days, and the Sanouks are for playful big storm days and the occasional jaunt into the bc.
