Honestly, I went +1 out of great respect for the 189, haha. I also generally get along well with P15 mounts around -10. Think Bry said he is on the line and happy there. Either way, don't think you can go wrong; great ski. See ya out there Pretzel!

Went long this year.

--Last season, pulled in the 192 Carbon Cochise 108 and loved it. (++stability vs the 185 - more stupid/reckless is always a plus, right?!.)
So, then I "needed" to try it for all my favs...

--Then mid-year pulled in a 196 Bodacious, and the last day of the year, got that freebie pair from Fred Pabst! (Thanks again man - you're the best.) The second pair got gifted to my ski buddy for HS grad.
--Found a cheapish pair of the new Cochise 106's in 192 - early spring. (Good, but, IMO, sorta "Meh" compared to the 108's - I'll get more time on them this year, and perhaps update that opinion. Worth getting if you don't have the OG or 108, not worth it for replacing.)
--Then a backup pair of 196 Bodacious in the last month - the Red/Gold/White ones. They struck me as kinda ugly - but are now growing on me.
--Bry pointed me at the OG Cochise in 193 from a CL listing. (and a second pair that goes to my 18Y/O ski buddy today) - also a few months ago. (Thanks! Bry! You're awesome!)
--Then just managed to login to TGR gear swap, less than two minutes after Bandit posted those Monsters - and scooped them up. (Sorry HAB! If I don't like them, you'll be first in line to pick them up.)
--The Volkl Two's rarely come out, but for super special deep days, they're handy to have around.
--The Devs are cool, but really don't gel quite as well with me as the Cochise/Bodacious - probably time to search for a new home for them.

That's what I intend to ski this year.
And I need to quit buying stuff, now that I've got my dream quivver. [Though a Black Ops Sender Squad seems tempting, if they weren't so expensive.]

Holdovers from last season:


- 184 Salomon X-drive 8.8 for really hard conditions when I don't want to put in the work for the monsters
- 184 Head Monster 108s for ripping
- 186 Blizzard Bodes w/ duke pt bindings. Got these as a backup for the other Bodes, they will be my travel ski and for the rare sidecountry day in good conditions
- 186 Blizzard Bode. DD
- 188 G3 Sendr for all things touring. I really like the ski, but swapped out the Shifts for Ions for this season

Still to be mounted:


- 193 Blizzard Cochise. Picked up dirt cheap in Calgary, I will see if they bring anything to the table that the 186 Bodes don't
- 191 Wrenegade. Picked up from a PSA on GS, I've always wanted a pair of Wrens and these are in mint condition spare some rust and 2 mounts. Should be a fun ski at Whistler or other places with big terrain when I have my big boy pants on
- 190 Moment Bibby Pro. Got these because I found the Bodes to be poor powder skis for how damn wide they are.

How does one come by the tyrolia demo tracks?

By buying the bindings.

- Bentchetler 120, 186 cm. Mounted on the CB line (-3 from true center I think). My favorite pow ski ever, that version was the best balance IMO. Decent weight (unlike the newer ones), decent finish/quality (has that "hrzn tech" thing as well). Beast 16 kinda sucks ass, have had some issues over the years with icing parts and other plastic pieces falling off. I'm probably gonna throw em away in favor of some alpine bindings (have Hawx Ultra S on the way). I have actually done some courageous tours on this setup when I was younger and stupider, overall this is my kind of ski shape-wise and flex-wise.

- Menace 98 181. Mounted at +2 from REC, should be 5/6 cm from true center. I like this ski a lot, found it for cheap on some online shop here in Europe and decided to pull the plug after reading a lot about it here on TGR. It is basically the closest thing to a "charging ski" I'll ever want. Stomps landings very well and planes amazingly on good snow in wide open areas.
Beast 14 bindings: here in Italy I think there's the last colony of Beast owners, matter of fact we all know each other and I guess at this point we could be classified as some sort of sect: at the end of the day with that stupid heel fitting/spur we can actually say we run our own ski tests and demos. Please do notice that I have an old B14 heelpiece behind the skis on the shelf, a must-have accessory for any home. I guess it's the decadent freeriding equivalent of that "live laugh love" Karen-style paraphernalia you find in some homes in the States. All I can say is ladies are always impressed upon seeing it.
Anyway it is what it is, pretty fiddly to operate but I do want to say that the B14 never let me down release-wise. I won't try to praise the binding per se or its features but I do trust the fact that it'll release when it has to. Ski brakes in touring bindings have progressed a lot lately but I do remember 4-5 years ago guys with the old atk Raider bindings with those toothpick toepiece-ski brakes were definitely jealous of my sturdy brakes (wow that's some self-defense mechanism based on denial right there)

-Tracer 108 188 cm. Mounted at +4 or 5 from REC, I can't really remember. A gem found on the Italian version of gumtree for something like 150 euros with skins, I've only skied it a couple times but I am digging the shape, the build (I like wooden planks, miss me with that carbon/fiberglass bs) and the weight (good enough to carry it around, light in the air). Hopefully tails hook up less than the M98 when spinning/doing butters and it ends up becoming the "touring daily driver" that I was looking for when replacing my beloved Bentchetler100. I've had the MTN for 2-3 years now, I like it a lot, I like the clamping strength in the toepiece (when doing mellow tours I often keep em on SKI, facilitates transitions when skiing more runs) and the overall simplicity. I run the "men's" spring on them. Compared to the good 'ol tlt/speed tours I used to run on heavier,fatter skis 10 years ago I guess I can be happy.

- Scott Punisher 108 183 cm, Vices. That ski is what got me into this whole world, 10years ago while everyone else in Italy was "pushing Trabs"and dayglo scarpa Aliens I felt like I had found joy with these paired with the primitive tech binders from that era. I would lurk here on TGR to find solace and inspiration, I'd feel less alone. More than happy to have kept them as my Tele ski (I suck at tele but it's fun)

Bentchetler 100 180 cm. They were also mounted forward and have ended up undrilled in my living room given that after 2 mounts I have run out of space for holes and I definitely do not want them mounted on recommended/that far back. That ski has been my favourite all-round shape for what I do (90 % touring, 10 % lifts). Super poppy, super stout but manouverable if you knew how/where to mount,easy to do abrupt slashes, also fun flex for butters without being noodly. Sadly they're hard to find nowadays and I never pay retail for a pair of skis, I like the feel of trying everything and anything, especially if extra cheap/used.

Boots are Hawx Ultra XTD. I run WC Boosters on em.

Dang I just saw this. I live in Seattle but am in SLC through the new year, only brought the Governors though.

The Meridians are great, very loose and drifty when needed but also carve pretty well, better than the Governors. I really like the combo of easy turning in 3D snow and edge grip on firm for touring.

My experience with full rocker vs. cambered skis has generally been that the full rocker skis are quicker, but the cambered skis have more energy. If you want to drift and slash all over the place, it might be worth trying out a full rocker ski. If you like pop or high-energy carving, full rocker probably won't be as fun. The Meridians, and other full rocker skis I've had, are definitely less poppy than my old ON3P Jeffrey 122s were; but are easier to turn in heavy Cascade mank.

Would be interested in your comparison of the Q-Lab and the Squads, mostly because of the mount point fukkery of the two models. I have the Q-Lab 190cm and get along just fine with them on the mark. I remember people thinking that rec line was to forward and hearing the same about the squads??

Interesting. I saw this on my way to the hill yesterday and thought about it while skiing the Squads (didn’t bring the Q-Lab). They’re really different skis. The Q-Lab is more powerful, tip and tail, and even with the progressive mount it likes to be driven. The Squad doesn’t have a problem with being driven, but they feel a little more special when you stay centered and get slashy. They don’t have that big rewarding tip and tail that the Q-Labs have.

Outside of a mount point discussion, I don’t think you’d compare the two, even if they shine in similar conditions. Q-Lab compares favorably to the Rangers and the Corvus. Squad actually feels, early impressions, like a narrower and damper (and heavier) OG Renegade that’ll carve a turn.

On the Squad, I started at -2 and went to recommended and prefer them there, but if I had it to do over again I’d maybe go 0.5 back.
