The fact that the Quiver thread is alive makes me happy.

I’ve added two pair since I posted that picture, and I’m not skiing 100+ days a year anymore. And on the 70 or so days I did ski, I put a total of three runs on the volkls and one day on the movements. In one of the best seasons we’ve had in a quarter century.
And yeah, sf, glad to see the quiver thread alive again, I love perusing this and wondering why everyone is so short and fat nowadays. Their skis, I mean.![]()
Thanks. Sounds like the 108's may need a backup pair.

Mounted up my new skis. The quiver is shaping up for this winter nicely, shouldn’t have too many changes as the season goes on. I would like to add a light weight pow touring ski I can mount Kingpins to. The UL ARV JJ 116, or something in that weight and size range.
187 Blizzard Brahma w/ Look PX 18
Carving rip around ski. Great low snow day ski. I’m excited to have a narrow ski again.
188 Blizzard Rustler 9
Low snow touring ski. Getting a pair of G3 Ion 12s mounted on them soon. Replacing the QST 99 I toured on last winter. Hoping these will be easier to ski in variable conditions.
194 Kaestle MX 98 w/ Look Pivot 18
My go to inbounds tram lap ski. This is my 3rd and final pair. Hopefully they have 250-300 days in them like my last pair.
204 Faction Candide 3.0 w/ Look Pivot 18
Hopefully my go to every day ski. It was a toss up between the 192 and 204 3.0s, I went big cause I should be fine on them. The flex profile is really nice, just hoping they hold up to a seasons worth of abuse.
195 Praxis Super Freerides w/ Look Pivot 18
Heavy snow pow ski, when it’s creamy in late Feb/early March, nothing is better. Tried selling them and couldn’t ship them off, too much fun when it’s right. Enduro core w/ carbon, 4 flex
193 Volkl Shiro w/ Cast 1.0 Pivot 18
Old reliable. Resort pow ski, reliable, and good at what they do. Have some quirks, but just don’t lean them over too far and the massive tip won’t catch on anything.
203 Volkl Shiro w/ Look Pivot 18
Big mountain pow ski. These come up when it’s deep enough to let them run on big faces. Last year it was never quite right and they stayed away. Hopefully this year we will get lucky and I’ll be able to get them for a run. Really saving these for if I get to go to AK some year, cause I can’t think of a better ski for my style skiing on huge faces.
196 Praxis Protest w/ Look Pivot 18
Deep snow ski, Japan ski, any time the report is 12 inches or more over night, and no one is fudging numbers. Hoping to get them out more this winter well sled skiing. Enduro core w/ carbon, 4 flex. Maybe should of gotten them in a 3 flex, they are stiff.
I have two goals for the winter for the quiver. First I want to see if I’m comfortable with just the Super Freerides, or the 193 Shiros. Second, I think the 196 Protests will be fine on big faces, if they are, can they fill two notches and can I sell the 203 Shiros. Third, will I like the Candide 3.0s? They aren’t what I usually like in a ski, but I didn’t think I’d like the ARV JJ 116, but I enjoyed it.

If ski companies didn't make new skis every year I wouldn't have to get new skis every year.

I don’t think they’ve seen a day on snow. They had mint S914s but needed to remount anyway so shifted the purpose of the Pivots.

Yessir. My quiver is trending to a collection. That said all will be skied. Those Kahunas RIIIIP. I love them for high speed groomer bombing. Haven’t been on explosivs in 10+ years. Can’t wait.

Why tour when it’s deep? I have a snow pony for that, duh!
Actually, just haven’t figured out a deep snow touring ski yet. Haven’t done much (or very far) touring when the pow is good to get after via lifts. I’m also very picky about my soft snow skis, and finding a pow touring ski that’s over 190 cm that I like, has been a challenge. The Armada ARV JJ 116 UL is my radar, as is the Armada Tracer CHX. I thought BlackCrows did an 190 plus Freebird touring ski, but I don’t see it for sale anywhere. If I like the Candide 3.0s, the 192 3.0 or the 192 4.0 might slide into that deep snow touring spot. Or maybe I’ll just man up and drag the Shiros w/ cast plates around. Who knows...

Four years back in to the sport... baby steps. I sold those J Skis this morning so need to pick some binders for this year’s quiver. Thinking green Attack2 for the blizzards and orange or gold sth2 for the Wolves.
180 Rustler 9 for low tide and for general east coast.
173 MX83 for ice coast zooming and the local sled hills here in flyover country.
182 Woodsman 108s for everything else.

My starting point for the main quiver this year. I have bought too many skis over the past two seasons, but oh well - fun to try. The general idea is to have one low tide ski, one daily driver and one powder ski in each segment (resort and touring), but got a bit carried away. The working hypothesis is that resort quiver will end up being wren108+kartel116+wren114, but time will tell.
Touring:
Völkl Mantra V-Werks 179 with Tectons - will possibly sell these, though I am guessing these are best ice skis in this quiver
4FRNT Raven 184 w/Tectons - safe, love these
Völkl BMT122 176 w/Tectons - safe, love these as well
ON3P Wrenegade96 179 - to be mounted with Atomic Backland binders - will probably slot in the spot that the Mantras might vacate. The idea is to try a full on ski with a light weight tech binding for touring - to be compared back to back with BMT90s w/Vipecs ( a lighter ski with a more substantial binding)
Resort:
ON3P Wrenegade108 179 w/Shifts - safe, adore these, love how they feel
ON3P Wrenegade114 179 w/Shifts - safe - very limited use yet, but I think these will be just what I have been looking for
ON3P Kartel116 181 w/Shifts - custom stiffer, will remount slightly back, remain in quiver to test more thoroughly - might sell
ON3P BG 184 w/Shifts - went up a size, and will give them another go, stock other than graphic. Quiver status pending use
ON3P C&D 184 w/Shifts - bought these for the same reason i got the BGs, to try and to learn - time will tell if they remain in the quiver or not
not depicted:
ON3P Mag90s with C&Ds graphics in 176 w/Pivot14s - bought to improve my ski control and to learn how to spin/butter
Völkl BMT90s in 177 w/Vipec Blacks - long range/multi day tourer. These or the wren96s might become redundant - time will tell.
Boots:
Atomic Hawx XTD 130s with either 120 or ProTongue for resort riding, or ProTour liners for touring. I also have a pair of Fischer RC4s, but they see little use. My long range touring boots are Arcteryx Procline Carbons for now, but might sell them. If so the XTDs might have to do, or I might get some Backland Carbons - time will tell, dependent on funds.
The resorts these skis will be used at are fairly small with say 90% freeride terrain. What they lack in groomers though they make up for in terrain, with lots of easily accessible terrain a short tour away. Hence all the Shifts. Realistically Castified Pivots could have been a better choice than the Shifts, but oh well - time will tell. Also, I am a lighter guy so Shifts should do just fine for daily needs. The resorts also see quite a lot of snow, so groomer time should be pretty minimal, a change from my old home resorts that had usually had >50% groomer time in any one given run.
The idea is to make this quiver quite a bit smaller during the coming season. I already decided to part ways with some skis from last year's quiver - for instance the absolutely awesome Rustler 11s. I love how the Rustler 11s ski, but they generate too much overlap and I have other skis I would rather keep. The Mantras might get sold as well.
My second quiver will be presented once the binders have been mounted. I have two quivers so that I do not need to drag stuff back and forth between the two spots where I live. I am trying to prevent off days caused by forgetting stuff in the other location. This way is a bit more capital intensive, but oh well - so far so good. Again, the quivers will see a bit of trimming once the season is upon us.
