How many of you guys have skis in the quiver that haven’t been skied in 2+ years? For me if a pair skis won’t get used hardly at all they get turned over and sold.
I do. I’ve been hoarding on-piste skis for years because I’m 6’4” and nobody makes frontside skis for grownups anymore. Plenty of gargantuan pow sticks for a guy my size, but it’s very tough to find something in the sub-100mm range that I’m not overpowering or just skiing over the top of. If I have money wrapped up in a ski and it’s not getting used, I’ll flip it, but I’m a scrounger and a Luddite and land stuff cheap to prep for the future, when skis wear out. Currently mothballed:
188 Stockli SS Pro- new, waiting for current ones to die.
192 Stockli SR 95- new, waiting for 190 LP to die.
190 Kneissl Tanker- skied ~15 days, waiting for my knees to die, when I can’t push around a 194 mx98 anymore.
196 Hart Wizard- skied ~20 days. They were free, no point selling them.
No binders on any of them, so they’re not taking up space and I don’t have much invested in them. But they will get used down the line.
Also, living in the desert SW, my 192 Movement Super Turbos don’t get out more than a day or three a year, but I’ll keep them for another ten years because there’s no reason to sell and I do occasionally get to use them.
I Came, I Saw, I .... Made A Slight Effort & Then Went Home For Lunch.
The picture didn't stick Beaver
TLDR; Ski faster. Quit breathing. Don't crash.

It took awhile to get here but I'm pretty happy with how things sit currently. Not pictured are my sabre 89s and pb&js, both of which are mounted with Bishop Bmf-3 switch plates (they share one pair of bindings). Both are for sale in gear swap. I combined those two slots into one with the wrenegade to make more room in the van, and because
The sabres don't get enough use to keep around. Considering keeping the pb&js as rock skis since the inbounds skis are so minty fresh...
This is less of a quiver and more of a collection (as Kirby pointed out a few years ago).
I've skied 1/4 of these this season. There are a few more I really want to take for a rip before the snow is gone...

Do what you like, Like what you do.
Excellent.
But we cant see the skis((
Those racks from grizzly are the best. I’m about to order a second since I’m only going to need more.
Here we go:
188 Solomon QST 99 w/ G3 Ion LT 12 - Light touring ski - 1 day so far, will get more use the next few weeks
194 Kastle MX 98 w/ Look Pivot 18 - 🤷♀️ lost track of days used, my go to inbounds ski for up to 6in, but it was too deep this winter to use them much
192 Armada ARV 116 JJ w/ Rossignol FKS 18 - 15ish days, bought on a recommendation of a friend, took time but grew on me, I’ll post a review later
193 Blizzard Scout w/ Kingpin 13 - Pow touring ski or fat mountaineering ski, skied 2 or 3 days, probably going to sell in the fall and move Kingpins to 193 Shiros or ARV JJs
193 Blizzard Scout w/ Look Pivot 14 - Skied 3 days, plan was to be a light side country set up, sat in my locker and never got used, winter was too deep
195 Praxis Super Freerides (+10mm width) w/ Look Pivot 18 - skied 4-5 days, over time were replaced by Armada a ARV JJs, great in heavy creamy pow, super stable, awesome big mountain ski
194 Praxis Quixote - skied 4 days at JHMR and 5 at Steamboat, tale of two skis, I couldn’t get them to work how they were described in Jackson in powder or big steep lines. My friends in Steamboat all ski 180-185cm 100-110mm wide skis as there fat skis, so as a joke I took my Quixotes and they were awesome. I was there for the end of February storm and the Quixotes were awesome in everything and I never wanted anything else. I came back to Jackson and couldn’t make them work.
193 Volkl Shiros w/ Look Pivot 18 - Go to old faithful pow ski, just good and reliable.
203 Volkl Shiros - I never got this out this year, even with our great winter they were never needed. I always seemed to be out of town or working when the conditions were right for skiing big steep open faces. These will go to AK some day, and it will be awesome doing 80 down steep faces
196 Praxis Protests w/ Look Pivot 18s - Custom topsheet, 4 stiffness w/ carbon, Skied 12 days in Japan and 4 in Jackson. Go to deep pow ski. Great ski, a little over kill at 4 stiffness, but still a ton of fun.
Not pictured:
194 Kastle Mx 98 - red tip - brand new in plastic
185 Blizzard GS skis - need a pair of Marker X-Cell bindings
Skis I tried/bought and didn’t like:
193 Blizzard Cochise - just meh
194 Praxis Freerides - just meh
193 Black Crows Corvus - so not fun at all
185 Blizzard Zero G 95 - way too stiff and not fun
DPS Spoon - bought and sold, never skied, over kill
RIP list -
187 Blizzard Brahma - delaminate under a binding
194 Kastle MX 98 - red tip - steamboat bumps killed these, delaminated behind a heel piece - they did have 250-300 days on them
186 Blizzard Peacemaker - mostly dead when a friend gave them to me and they delaminated under a heel piece
Additions for next year:
1/2 or 3/4 ton truck
Ski-Doo Summit X 165in sled
187 cm Blizzard Brahma or 189 Kastle MX 89 - a narrow carving ski always belongs and I definitely missed having one
192 cm Faction Candide 3.0 or something similarly playful - I had a ton of fun screwing around on the JJs and would like something narrower and playful for low snow periods
192 Armada Arv JJ 116 LT - if they ski like the ARV JJs and tour better then the Shiros
190 Armada Magic JJ - these interest me if they are easier to ski then my custom Protests, I’m afraid of the length though, 190 would be my shortest ski
Subtractions for next year:
193 Scouts - both probably will go away, I just don’t tour as much as I would like to or think I will each year
Quixote’s - Armada ARV JJs are more useful for me
Super Freerides - same reason Quixotes are going to go away
It was a short year for me, 75-80 days skiing, not the usual 120-150, but I learned a ton. Made some new ski buddies who are a lot more playful on the mountain then I have ever been and had a blast skiing with them, I think that’s why I took to the ARV JJs and backed away from huge super stiff skis. January and February were insane, I skied deep pow more then ever before and had a blast doing it. On to spring corn harvesting and slushy laps in Squaw.
thanks - now that is the way to do a quiver presentation imho! The thoroughness is appreciated!
Really like how you avoided overlap tooSeriously though - I really like how skis are bought for a quiver role, so while waist withs might be the same/similar, the skis still ski very very differently.
And fakk me - Praxis veneer w/graphics top sheets just look soooo good.
As for Protest-replacement - have you considered Armada's new/old full jeebus pow stick - the ARG II? Reverse, reverse if "only" 187cm. Re https://issuu.com/zuzupopo/docs/armada_1920_hardgoods
Always love your yearly post Skibrd!
You're gonna have to give us an explanation on the ARV 116 JJ
Magic J should be fine if you like the 116 JJ.
I think I've asked you before but why don't you like the Cochise?
Guess you're regretting selling the MVPs since you want something more playful now?
I am really sceptical of that faction 3.0, I've seen to many pairs snap and don't really like how they ski either. The prodigy is better.
Maybe a 191 enforcer 110?

Thanks Kid-Kapow and Mr_Pretzel, hopefully more people do the same.
Skis are for a purpose, I just haven’t found a ski between 100mm and 115mm that I really liked, hence why my skis fit a role, not a waist range. I still have too many and some will have to go away.
Want a pair of Super Freerides with Max on cherry? Make it worth your while?!?
For what I paid for the Protests, they aren’t going anywhere for a long long time, even if they only get skied 5 days a year and a trip every few years to Japan or AK. Side note, my AK quiver if I ever get to go just keeps getting bigger and bigger, 203 Shiros, Protests, JJs... The ARG II looks really interesting but at 187 I’ll end up tomahawking all day long. I do really like the new graphics of ARV JJ 116 and that Armada has stiffened it up twice now (mine are 17/18 and it’s been stiffened up each of the past two seasons) brings it to the top of my radar. Hum...
Yep, ARV JJ 116 really surprised me. I’ll work on the review this week sometime.
Why don’t I like the Cochise, um... they don’t excel at anything, but do everything pretty well, which makes them great as a one ski quiver, but I clearly don’t need a one ski quiver ski, because I’m lucky to have a quiver. I’d love to have a pair to grab 3-5 days a season, but just can’t justify the investment for a ski that doesn’t stand out.
I do not regret selling the MVPs, they were 5 flex and someone mounted them on centerline for 335 bsl. In the stock layup, the MVP is a playful ski, but in the 5 flex construction, I don’t think they would of been much fun. They are gone so no second guessing that decision.
I’ve never had a playful ski before the ARV 116 JJ, and it’s been fun. I’m not 100% sure the 3.0 is the right ski, but something along those lines. I know about the durability issues of the Faction Candides, and I’m going to be looking at other similar skis that might be more durable. I don’t really want a charger, I’ve got chargers I like and I’ll grab those when it’s time for that. Maybe I should order a pair of custom MVPs in the spring sale, hum...
Side note on Praxis skis, I got really lucky to meet up and ski a few days with Lars and Silas, both who have been spending a ton of time on stock layup +10 MVPs and loving it as a playful pow ski that also charges. Just a thought for someone looking for a playful pow charger.
