Ha! His recent contributions to the grateful deadcast shows were awesome.
Just a reminder that not every song Robert Hunter wrote was a home run.
Cooking with gas now single. I could get lost in that one pretty quick!
Here’s one with the Travis Bean ringing like a bell, my favorite Jerry guitar… But, more importantly is Phil way up in the mix and out front leading the way. Hang in there through the opening Sugaree while they get the Board figured out… Minglewood starts about 20 minutes in and is about the best Phil I have heard.
Bong down, bro
I posted this same show on Memorial Day, it is a killer show, I’ll give you that.

I went to JFK two days before and my buddy and I decided to stay in Jersey for the next day at another friends house in Cherry Hill, we had only planned on the Philly show, but we ended up on the floor at Giants Stadium, so glad we made it! Drove back to NH that night with no money for the toll on the GW, we just drove right past the booth!

Well done that toll didn’t apply!
Been on a Let it Grow tear lately. Feeling like that song doesn't get enough credit. The lyrics alone make it special, let alone the whirlwind guitar.

"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring."
The full Weather Report Suite is some of the best of the best, maybe Bobby’s greatest contribution.

Have to agree his best - certainly grandest, is WRS. My top 10 contributions from Weir are below, alphabeta. Outstanding versions of 5 of these feature in the setlist of the OP, 1977.05.13
Black-Throated Wind
Cassidy
Estimated Prophet
Jack Straw
Lazy Lightning/Supplication
Looks Like Rain
Playing in the Band
The Music Never Stopped
The Other One
Weather Report Suite (incl., Let It Grow)
Mile-wide smile on that railbird @4:57 in the video, (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ya6gEGpCieI&t=297s). This dude is all over the final cut concert footage for the film, non-stop boogie.
Is anyone aware of an older recording of band members than this?
There's something to be said about being part of a packed stadium-sized crowd, all grooving on the same vibe, but those pre late-80's days before the Dead picked up a massive audience were pretty special. Can't think of a better setting than the Greek Theater in Berkeley on a spring day. Very nice listen - thx for posting.
Now that is a hoot, and such a clean recording! (And no, I don't.)
In that early spirit...
The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.
This is one of those cuts that you could hand to a non-believer and say, "this is why."
Aside from all the nuances that we heads like to point out and enjoy, the sheer force of the band and immeasurable talent are on full display. Even Donna is on point.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
