alpine surprised me today. I thought the high snow level of the last system and recent high temps would have done a lot more damage.

groomers had absolutely no speed limit during the morning, and the place was a ghost town... coast to coast high speed carving was a blast!

after lunch corn was to be found in the right aspects... it was tasty

anybody tour lately? ill be at alpine the rest of the week unless I get the stoke to earn some turns

    Ah. You were close mang.
The trees between Sherwood Cliffs & Arts Nob were soft, and mostly unskied. Lovely in fact (compared to the rest of the hill).
We ended up sessioning it the rest of the day, with one try at Expert Shortcut (for the trees off the cat-track, under there) which was chalky bumps, but with bad viz.

The Dad, we caught a glimpse of your FreeHeelGal, and her posse, (and OHC, I guess) heading into Counterweight, but she didn't hear my shouts.
We passed on following them. Good thing, as that's when we discovererd the pow in the trees
I'll see if I can get TheImmaculateDeception to post a pic he took of us in there.

We ended up skiing with a tie-dye park-rat from Sierra Summitt (Sean). He was enamoured of Cindy's Dreads...
Apparently he was pulling tricks off the stuff in the trees we were hitting, but I missed it all as I was dropping in first.

It's a funny old world, innit?

Dunno -- particularly since you were simultaneously texting me about being in Estelle.

But one of her posse apparently asked her if she knew "a guy with weird hair" who was shouting her name. Too late, though. Some other time.

While we're on the topic of encounters, was that you leapfrogging me from Fairfield to Hercules around 8:30 last night?

I was on my way back from this place, if you recognize it, which was freaking delightful as I coulda asked for to kick off the new year.

Here's a teaser pic of me getting ready for my second lap of this powder line, which ended up pretty much in my sleeping bag.

What a way to ring in the new year! TR next week after I get back from a work trip to ¡HOTlanta! Hope this brings a dump to California.

The only reason we were wearing the lamps was for the photos - the bowl is east facing and the moon was only 2 days past full Can't wait to sort through all the photos for the trip ... but it'll take hours.

looks like a fun trip, alex! great lines and double props for bringing along a tripod on your camping trip! can't wait to see the TR.

i managed to rally a few troops here in south lake to go out for a moonlight hike, but then they all balked when i asked who would drive... i guess getting out of the south shore cluster ahead of time is key for getting anywhere on nye.

the "ghost town" aspect at AM may have hit upper mngt rather quickly. expect a "limited lift operation schedule" very soon? i don't think we're gonna be happy...

Your report got gimpy and I to ski the cross....it was a cool adventure, but maybe not quite the snow quality you guys enjoyed - although some of it was muy bueno. And after skiing that I was even more impressed by your early season assault on BC!

Nice work down on the eastside too. On a recent drive from LA to Tahoe I inspected every nook and cranny visible from 395. Mt Tom and Wheeler Crest looked to have the best snowpack, albeit still thin. Can't wait for the monster dump so I can head south and have some fun too.

Thanks for the pics and looking forward to more from the sierras and beyond.

    Limited hours or limited lifts?

Edit: For midweek, I would be happy with just Summit, Scott and Sherwood running. Roundhouse seems kind of useless when AM is empty and it is not storming. AM would probably have to run Hot Wheels or Meadow for Ski School and little kids.

As someone planning to ski Thursday afternoon next week and a full passholder, limited hours would suck. Limited lifts I could probably live with if the hikes are open and AM mngt is upfront with the reason.

is this speculation or is this true? jebus, i hope not, usually they don't go to that until late spring. can't remember shutting down key lifts (Scott, Sherwood, etc) mid-season. sure, alpine bowl usually off schedule mid-week during mid-season, but not the key lifts.

Here comes Junuary! Still some slightly over cooked pow in sheltered N/NE areas in the Rose Backcountry, but the corn is ripening up!

Alpine was fucking dead today, felt like Alpine 7 years ago. There were untracked lines in Palisades and Buttress, haven't seen that in a long time.

well, looks like its time to head back down to the bay and make some $, hit some culture/see some music, art, etc and put away the fat skis (plus wash the car).

3 weeks of good skiing and snow and the best Dec in almost 4-5 yrs, so can't complain. the Jan dry-spell is upon us, was hoping with el nino we might break the curse this year.

see ya'll about the 15th if the dweeb is right.
