Heading out to KW in a bit. Snowing up here nice an steady.

Yesterday the boundry was still closed. Learned it was due to gaper season. So we skinned up Red Cliffs and skied to Caples. Nice soft snow. A few pics to come. Seems like my best may be of Powdork inbounds.

That was almost the classic maggot chute run. I always think of that time a couple years ago when you, me and Punani did that run and the huck to straightline. I beatered that huck two seasons ago this time, had to spin a 360 on my shoulder to get my skis under me before the rock wall and tore the shit out of my rotator cuff and detached my bicep tendon. Miraculously, it has healed on it's own. Gawd, I love that run.

Thumbs down way to go tim cohee

this is what happens when you spend all your money on building crappy handle tows that never run instead of maintaining your power generation.

thanks OHC. It was a GREAT 12 days. I didn't make any powder turns on just 3 of those days. (2 of those I was skiing with the little kids, so no hiking and the 3rd I was driving home today.)

So, have you booked the trip to HI for next year yet?

Mott will remain closed until we get some more snowfall just way to thin over there and to many holiday gapers to get themselves all messed up in the canyons

    Howdy, longtime lurker, firsttime poster.

Well, if it *does* open, I reckon the lines will be a touch shorter, as the threat of getting stuck on a lift has reportedly resulted in cancellations of half of the weekend reservations, says Cohee:

He also claims that the lifts will be turning by 9AM, but I know his word is not worth much in these parts.

I got a squaw pass this year. But somebody gave me a heavenly day pass that I need to use by 1/15. I'll probably do a day next weekend there.

possibly the best line in the tribune article is when cohee is quoted saying

“We don't know yet for certain, but it certainly burned a lot longer and a lot hotter than we thought it would,” Cohee said. “I think the building is toast, and most if not all of the equipment.”

well damn it kirkwood can't even get there buildings to burn at the right temperate whos running the show out there. Though the other theory conspiracy seems like he had some predetermined ideas as to how he wanted this fire to go

Skied Alpine today because of the KW debacle. The irony is that it basically rained to the top of Alpine, while Kirkwood was probably so freaking good. I warmed up with the Dad, Turx, and Cinders and then hit everything from Estelle face, high yellow, boundary line out in Sherwood, Sherwood cliffs, early Promised Land, high yellow and there was NO pow to be found. Totally breakable crust over top 4/5ths of mountain with the bottom 1/5th frozen solid. Still had a great time because the snow was easy to manage and felt 'interesting.'. Nothing slid as I performed AC work. The Dad and I finished the day with a little bc condo run in the protected trees and found a couple turns of 'so close to pow' pow.

^^^ it is amazing how fast it can go from great to total shit in Tahoe and that it is normal for it to happen.
