Ha! That was me. I remember you were pretty psyched to see those skis again.

Still got em in the basement. I'm considering letting them go now that I've acquired some Megawatts, so you'll be the first to know if and when I sell them. But....there's something about having them in the basement for those certain days, or to lend out to a friend in need....

I had one pair, in 2005. I loved those skis, but only got to ski them 3 or 4 days as I was stuck in the Midwest at the time.

Sold them to a friend in Romania, and I have since lost touch with him and said Spatoolas.
You should have been here yesterday!

yeah, i remember my first day on them @ alpine, totally recall getting off summit and heading for the traverse/hike/slog up through keyhole, and the snow sticking to the metal top sheets creating a layer cake effect as i side stepped/slogged up towards keyhole, and thinking "wtf, these things blow for traversing". got to top of keyhole and dropped in, and the light bulb went on.

was amazed how you could scrub speed and line up your air by throwing them sideways and how easy they were to whip around (no hop turns needed). i think i did keyhole and variations of that line like 5 times that day i was so blown away. same with skiing trees, best pow-tree-skiing ski ever

Bought a pair from someone on here. Totally forget who it was though, back in my freshman year of college. Awesome ski, but way freakin heavy.

About to drop into hidden with them...

I have owned two pair over the years. The first pair massively delammed between the metal and guts of the ski. The second pair was traded for some Nordica 105's to some one here. I loved the spats, but I honestly think the Praxis Pow's were a great improvement (due mostly to a lowered weight and stubbier tip).

I bought mine off Ebay for $220, I thought my name needed to be Shane to be able to ski them, but for the money I thought I'd give them a try anyway. They were great, a real revelation in powder skiing. I'm sure I looked like an idiot my first run as I managed to crash in front of the entire ski patrol at Alpine on the groomer. After that I remembered not to lean forward!

I still have them and won't ever be selling them, although I think my 195 Praxis Powder is a better ski for me. I couldn't make it to the memorial, but I took them out at Squaw the following week in honour of Shane.

2 Pair new, 1 ski used.

First pair from Shane, 2nd on Ebay. Been doing the mix and match over the years. Bent one to hell, had a de-lam on another.

Losing one under the Fingers one day, I stood the other up in the snow while I looked. A few mintues later some guy rolls up and says I have one in Truckee. Took his number, gave him $80 and was spaulating the next day.... swung by Squaw security in July and picked up my lost ski. I currently have 3 skis.

1 more pair, and where's the mount line?

Hey I just got a pair in Truckee off craigslist, mostly covered in white paint. Only trouble is I can't find the boot-center line to mount my bindings... anyone have a tape-measure approximation?

    A little anal there, huh?

Can't believe I just saw this thread for the first time. I got mine from that shop in Onterrible that screwed so many people - can't remember the name of it right now - and they treated me right for some reason.

And SkiFishBum, you can ski them anytime you want, man. Just call me. I'll be back the 22nd anyway.

Mine measure 97cm straight tape from the tip.

Got them from BCR in 06 maybe? Skied them all the time for the past 2 winters. Still got them and plan on shredding them once we get some snow.

    I have a pair I've had since 2004 or 2005

Adimmen has a pair and I think had another pair that died.

Blurred had a pair that died.

This thread is awesome! I unfortunately never owned a pair, as my foray into big mountain skiing, tgr, and age lead to straight to the praxis pow generation of reverse/reverse skis. However, for the past at least 4 seasons, I've noticed one pair, brand new, still in plastic, for $750 on the ski racks at Cury's Sport Shop in Ramsey, NJ. I've been waiting for them to the lower the price as they've been there for quite a long time. Don't need them, but I do want a pair.

So +1 to the tally, even though they are unowned/owned by a ski shop.

I picked up two pair of Spatulas last year right before Shane died. I bought one pair from a mag and one from someone on Epay. Both only drilled once and in really good shape. I had just skied some Powderboards and decided they are great and I needed to ski some spats to compare. Anyway, my daughter and I skied them for the first time last week. They are so fun I can't really put into words. I find them silly easy to ski. I actually like the pointy tips a bit better than the Powderboards, but I haven't run them in deep stuff yet. Coolest ski I have ever been on.

I bought my only pair back in 2006 when I lived out in Alta for about $400 with bindings. Picked them up from some guy who worked in the tech shop down at the REI in Salt Lake. Originally I was stoked that they were mounted with 912's for my bootsole, I quickly learned that a din of 12 was not enough to keep those beefcakes from popping off. I sold them in 2007 to some guy off of craigslist when I lived out in Breck... replaced them with some 138's for the same price. Regardless of the 138 butt-love that used to be so rampant around here, I still regretted replacing the Spats with them.

Although I can remember my first run of these, it was not mind blowing due to the rock hard conditions. The one run that stands out, probably the most memorable run of my life, was at Vail back in 2007 with llyon. I got my first taste of sustained neck deep and pretty much shit my pants. I couldn't imagine another ski to have that much control and manueverability underneath that much snow. Awesome. Thanks Shane.

2.5 pair. 1 mounted, 1 in plastic, 1 ski after I snapped it's twin sled skiing.

I've had two pair and they have given me some of my best runs ever. One in particular sticks out. I came bombing down through the trees at Silverton--top to bottom, blind hucking, constant face shots, breaking branches off with my helmet. It was one of those runs where everything just felt right. Not until I was putting my skis on the rack did I realize I had skied the entire run anchored only to the topsheet. Thanks again for all that metal.

To all those who say the Spats take some time to get used to: I agree. It wasn't until I was about a quarter of the way through my first turn in them that I was converted.
I can't believe you are a rando racer because I look so much better in Lycra than you.

Bump up the Chup household total to 2.5 pair: one for Mrs. C., one for me (thrashed rock skis at this point), and one spare.

I previously had another (different) pair that I got from ebay, which were the first rockered ski I ever had. Sold those when I bought the 195 Praxis powder skis, because I thought those would be more stable. Turns out they weren't any more stable; they were just bulkier. Sold them.

I like the fast-pivoting Spatula in tight spots and trees. For that extra stability, I'm totally sold on the tip-rocker-only designs, with either flat camber under foot, or a little bit of camber under foot.

I was in a local shop yesterday up at Purgatory/DMR and they've got two pairs of new Spats (still in the wrappers) that have been sitting on their rack for a few years. The price tag on'm was $359. If anybody is interested, the shop's e-mail address is goldski@frontier.net.
