I have to throw a somewhat-local offering into the mix: Devil's Backbone Eight Point IPA. Really good west coast-y IPA (dry, hoppy) from a great brewery near Charlottesville, VA. I think the Vienna Lager from there is probably actually better, but this is an IPA thread, and it's a good one.

And what's funny about Pliny, I just had some literally at the russian river brewery in downtown Rosa.. it was delicious. What's this about Pliny the younger though, I had pliny the elder? and it was delicious
I hit Stone on my first night in town. Turns out my hotel was only 9 miles from Stone.

I'll definitely give Double Jack a try. I see it every time I go into one of my regular stops.

I'm not real educated on the Younger. Something like Elder that's only brewed once a year. CO has about 11 bars that get a keg. Something like standing in line to buy a $8-12 ticket that gets you a pour. No thanks, there are plenty other great IPAs that do it for me at a much better price and much easier to get.

search this thread. not much like elder at all, but from the same brewery, only comes out once a year early February, only available for a couple weeks. Yuppies line up and quaff it. only $5 at the brewery, and you don't have to be in colorado.

Hehe, I was in San Diego 2 weeks ago and this guy was just too bad-to-the-bone-Luigi awesome for me to resist asking to capture a portrait.

I think this picture pretty much sums that place up:

normally a good stout is my go to brew, but good stout can be hard to find in local beer stores (& my homebrew isn't ready yet)
Luckily there are some good punchy hoppy IPAs available now so I can get my beer-with-actual-flavour fix.

If anyone is in BC, check the Mt Begbie Nasty Habit (Revelstoke), Nelson Brewing Co Paddy Whack, & Phillips on Vancouver Island has the Amnesia Double IPA.

I guess this a first world solution to a first world problem?

On my last trip to Vermont I picked up a Lawson's Sunshine Double IPA.

Probably the best beer I've ever had and well deserving of its score on Ratebeer.

Lots of hop flavour and good bittering without the resin taste that can be prone to the style.

Ha! We were at the OB Pizza Port in May. Ended up partying late night with a bunch of their brewers and some of the Lost Abby guys too. Had a blast. Definitely one of the best/funnest brewpubs that I've been to.\

    Edit: The Swami is gooooood.

Those of you up here in NorCal - mark your calendars. On July 28, Drakes is releasing these amazing brews. Aroma Coma is my summertime favorite, and Aroma Prieta is new but I am very much looking forward to it!

Has the Firestone Union Jack IPA been mentioned in this thread? If not, it should be. Damn fine beer.

The local brewery in St Paul, Summit Brewing, makes a super hoppy but light, crisp, lightly malted IPA called Saga IPA. Its a really unique beer.

Just had a New Belgium Pink Peppercorn IPA at Aleworks in Bozeman. Delicious. Slight peppery feel and taste goes well with the bitter. I may have another to confirm.
It's probably been mentioned, but Surly IPA in MN is tha bombbbb.

picked up a pack of Green Flash Hop Head Red. Good stuff, but honestly I prefer their West Coast IPA, which is a bit more hoppy.

    Union Jack is still perfect.

Fremont Brewery in Seattle is on absolute fire right now. Their ipa and pale are delicious anytime, and their Cowiche Canyon hop lab is amazing. Apparently the fresh hop Cowiche Canyon is lights out, so I will have to track some down this fall. Also, their barrel aging program is the best thing beerwise in WA right now, but this is an IPA thread...

I spent a week in San Diego on an IPA binge back in may. Hit up Ballast Point, Coronado, Pizza Port Solana Beach and grabbed pints of every other brewery I saw. My favorite beers of the trip were the Coronado Idiot IPA and the Ballast Point Big Eye IPA, although everything I tried at Ballast Point was fantastic.

Sante Adairius 831 IPA - hoppy, tasty, "danky" <- their word, not mine. good IPA from santa cruz co. Due to the retardacy for various booze laws you can get a taster, a 12oz or a growler... but not a pint

yeah it's ridiculous, I was at Firestone and they wouldn't let me get a pint of Double Jack.

    I was displeased.
