    Software for Web design

I've taken over my hiking club's Web site that was built using MS FrontPage. Now I need Web design software. FrontPage is long gone and replaced by MS Expression Web ($260 at Amazon) but what else should I be looking at? DreamWeaver 3 or 4? I'd like to maintain the current site while I design something new so being able to import the existing site would be a bonus. I'm using XP so Mac software need not apply.

What does it currently look like, and what do you want to do with the site?

I´ve spent some time making sites in flash, but for what I need to do for my own site (present pictures and illustrations, make links and embed video ++) I recommend indexhibit. www.indexhibit.org

Clean, simple, puts content first. You edit/build it directly in your browser, upload pics ++ There´s also a pretty good group of dedicated users and a forum where you can get help or suggest improvements to the developers.

    And it´s free.

If you want straight html style of web site then I'd look at Dreamweaver (if it is in your budget) and can spend the time on learning it. If not then there are a bunch of free or close to free packages that will do much better html code and design than Microsoft Front Page. NVu (looks like this is now gone- but I have a copy of it if you want to check it out), Coffecup Software, Notepad++ (since many that know what they are doing coding use Notepad for clean coding), and a few others.
A replacement to the NVu is available here:

also a list of downloads can be had here:

That's what I'm looking for; thanks.

Wordpress is more blogging oriented so that's not the one.

Index + Exhibit is too Flash oriented for me. I only installed Flash because Whistler-Blackcomb's site requires it.

What do you need that Wordpress doesn't give you?

You'd be surprised how many non-blog sites are actually Wordpress sites.
