hitek79, this shot is really nice. I was trying to produce something similar last time I was in the desert but I didn't have the light/terrain for it.

    Very nice.

Edit: This is what I got while trying to do what you did:

Somehow I missed this picture. You had the correct setup, but you needed to shoot in portrait, not landscape. That's the key to making those types of shots really look cool.

Not sure what you mean by "you needed to shoot in portrait, not landscape." Those are sharpening settings in a Canon camera or in Lightroom. I think what would have helped Rube's shot is to bend down and get closer to either the rocks or the cacti and thus give the picture more depth.

I think he meant "portrait" as in vertical crop and "landscape" as in horizontal crop.

I agree. I took several shots in portrait first but the slope just wasn't big enough, relative to the rocks, to get the effect I had previsualized(which you were able to create). So I changed the angle, backed off and zoomed in to pull the ridge into the frame a little better.

    Thanks for the input.

grizzle6: Those are just fantastic. I especially like the corn lilies and Queens Bridge. Great composition and use of GND filters.

Thanks mang. I think the hoohaa pic and the steep MTB trees are the only ones taken with the 10-22. The others were on my film camera (shot on slides, which is why the scan quality sucks) with my 17-40 f/4. I sold you the 10-22 cuz I got a full-frame (5D) and got my 17 back! Although I want the 16-35 2.8... f/4 is rough shooting in the woods!

Cool shot Astro. Is that a single frame or a stacked burst?

shot with the sigma 10-20... i think the exif stuff is still attached. this lens seems to be $$ for shooting in the tight places I like to go in the east...
