    Remounting bindings on Volkl Mantras

I have just in the last week got a pair of 170cm Volkl Mantras (I weigh 140 pounds, 5'6" tall) and have a pair of Marker Baron bindings on them. For about 4 years before this I have skiied Salomon 1080's, so the Mantras are obviously a whole lot more ski to ride, so I decided to have the bindings mounted 1.5cm forward of boot centre. In all other areas they ski great like this, but a few times in heavyish powder I have felt like I needed a bit more float up front, so have thought about moving the bindings 1.5cm back to the boot centre mark.

Can anyone give me any advice in this - is it ok to do this on a pair of skis that are going to be ridden pretty hard? Does it weaken the skis at all? Will I notice a difference in the powder?

Thanks for the advice guys - on a slightly different note, I've almost started thinking I should have gone for the 177 length. Any thoughts on this at all too?

Yeah, you definately want them at least at boot sole center, otherwise, you won't have anything in front of you. IMO- the Mantra's ski short. I am 6'2" and 203# and have the 177cm. I should have gone longer, but I have the Scott P4's in the 191 for pow days. The Mantra's are stiff, so they aren't the best pow ski, but if you move back on the ski a bit more, it should float a little better.
Low post count because I'm too busy working and then skiing, but not neccessarily in that order.

    Tech Talk next time JongassJong!

I have skied the Mantra since it came around. I still ski it. I am 5'5 140lbs (same size). I ski the 177 as my everyday ski. Mount on the line. There is no need to move it back. The tail is fairly stiff and you need more than less behind you. Mount on the line!

and for MESKIBUM, how does someone your size ski the Mantra in a 177? Doesn't seem right!

I too made the same mistake as MeSkiBum (6'3, 180 lbs). The Mantra was my first pair of reasonably fat skis since moving to Cali 3 years ago and I figured I'd ease into the big ski game. BAD DECISION. Not nearly enough ski for the Cali Crud they've got me on out here. Just demoed some Moment Rubies in a 180 and loved 'em - bigger and stiffer than my Mantras but still too short. My next pair of skis will prob be at least 185. MeSkiBum you're even bigger than I am - step it up!

LittleSpaceMan - I'm no gear geek but I'm generally told you can re-mount bindings once without noticeably damaging the integrity of the ski...so you should be fine to center mount these badboys (Mine are center mounted and I find that it floats fine...then again I skied Rossi bump skis my whole life so what the hell do I know).
No gnar was harmed in the writing of this post...

Thanks guys - Lloyd Braun, when you say ' mount on the line' do you mean mount on the boot centre line?

I'll try to repost this on the Tech Talk thread - is there a clever way to do that?

Theres a thread on here that exhausts the Mantra mounting point arguement. I ski the Mantra in a 184 (I'm 6 ft, 190 lbs) and I mounted mine 1.5 cm back of the boot center mark on the top sheet. 1.5 cm back is more of a traditional mounting point. Oh yeah and Mantras do ski ski short, my 184s measure 181 cm tip to tail, dont be afraid to bump up to a 177.
