    Dead tour spring 09

Happy New Year, everybody!! Hope and change are in the air! So what better way to kick off 2009 than to confirm what’s been buzzing in the rumor mill for some time: The Dead will be touring for the first time in more than four years, with nearly twenty shows spread across a month from mid-April through mid-May! Details will be announced here soon, so keep your eyes on dead.net!

The lineup for this edition of The Dead will be the same one that rocked the house at Penn State last fall at the Obama benefit: The Core Four of Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, joined by guitar monster Warren Haynes and RatDog keyboard ace Jeff Chimenti (both veterans of the 2004 Dead "Wave That Flag" tour). The mood of the band for this Spring Fling is way up, so it’s sure to be a great tour!

Dead.net will be your official hub for ALL news about the tour, including dates and ticket info... and perhaps even a few surprises along the way!

So gas up the Tourmobile, get out that really wild tie-dye--you know, the one with the red spiral melting into the purple and green that’s in a heap of clothes in the back of your closet--and start getting into Show Shape!

You know it’s gonna get stranger, so let’s get on with the show...

Bobby and Phil sounded great together the last two nights, especially the acoustic sets. You can tell they're really excited to be back playing together again.

I am just REALLY having a hard time getting excited about this new gig w/ Warren though. Like, not at all.

    BSS, why the Haynes skepticism?
I haven't kept up or listened to any post Jerry Dead, so I am genuinely curious...

No idea why people dislike Warren, he is the total package, great voice, great playing. It's obvious why the core 4 chose him for the job.

You know, I can't really put my finger on it. I guess I would have to say it's his twangy slide-style southern guitar playing. Which I love and sounds awesome in its own merit, but I just can't "feel" it in the context of the classic GD arrangements. Kinda like RatDog and the sax. Beautiful instrument and all, but it just doesn't fit. Warren does play a KILLER Wharf Rat though.

I guess if I were the one playing the same thing over and over for 40 years however, I'd probably look for ways to change it up a bit too. It'll be good to see the boys all back together and playing nice though, that's for sure. Let's hope it's built to last.

    I was all like "meh"
until you mentioned Warren and then I was all like "Hey...that might be cool"
so now I am all like "Hey...might have to check that out" until I saw it was at Pepsi Center
and now I am all like "meh" again.

Yeah, a Dead show at the Pepsi Center sandwiched between Celine Dion and Kanye West. No thanks. Two nights in Worcester on the other hand..

I caught the Dec. 30th show and was blown away. The last few times I have seen Rat Dog they have sucked. I was expecting more of the same this time. I have to give it up to Bobby as he finally has his shit together. I would go out on a limb to say Rat Dog was better than Phil and Friends. Great show by both bands but IMO Rat Dog out played Phil. Excited to see the Dead again. Did they ALL play together on the 31st??

That is DEFINITELY going out on a limb. Bobby's 12/30 show damn near put me to sleep, and I liked Phil's set so much I bought the CDs. Funny how folks interpret the same exact show so differently. On NYE though, RatDog was ON FIRE and IMO blew Phil's doors clean off. I was in utter shock. Probably the best Bobby I have ever heard actually. You missed out.

They (all ten, eleven, twelve? of them) played a long set that lasted until about 2:30. It was decent, but IMO just too confusing and hard to really get into with that many musicians playing on stage all at the same time. I mean, 4 guitarists? 2, sometimes 3 drummers (Jackie sat in for a few.) It was disorganized but I was pretty blasted by then FWIW so I may have to download it and give it a second listen.

At any rate, 8+ hours of music is pretty tough to beat.

I wish I could have been there for NYE. I was happy though I got what I got. I look back now at the set list and I would say on paper I liked Phil's set list better but I was blown away at how good Bobby sounded compared to previous Rat Dog shows I had seen recently. He just seemed on to me finally and looks to have his shit together. Can't wait for the Forum show! Hopefully they will have everything worked out by then as far as how many people are in the band. 3 drummers and 4 guitarist is a little much. Was Warren 1 of the 4?

Should be an interesting mini tour. ??? Having had a Dead problem earlier in life I wouldn't hold out much hope but if they add a show or 2 in the rockies, I'll be there.

Ouch. Went to get some Shoreline tickets and they're $125 for lower pavilion. Reserved area is $100. I'm gonna have to mull this one over a bit. That sure is a lot of coin. Granted the lawn tix are only $35 but being on the lawn there blows.

    plus
$16.00 parking on top of ticket
$20.00/per tic in house service charge ($10 for lawn seats)

    Grab your ankles.

BTW - Larry send me your mailing address and I'll rip you the Phil CDs if you want them.

How is it showing up on ticketmaster when they haven't even gone on sale yet? They have a presale going on the 13th thru GDTS. Since when do they go to ticketmaster before GDTS? They go on sale to the general public on the 23rd. I don't get it.
