Hopefully there's no nerve involvement and you heal up quickly.

Injuries = bad, vibes = good. Get well soon dude - I checked out your myspace page and was suitably impressed with your riding pictures. Get back out there and show folks how it's done!

    UPDATE:

Just got back from the hospital and Sam is in good spirits considering. He crushed L5 to about 40% of it's normal height, with loose bone fragments and swelling pushing into his spinal cord. Docs say he probably won't need surgery as most of the damage was probably done on impact and not from secondary trauma/movement, but as the swelling goes down he will have a better idea. As of now he has compromised nerve function in his right leg, but it is still working. Some numbness and weakness but still has movement. Also a broken thumb which he claims is no big deal, because he is always breaking it. No more hucking anytime soon. Overall he seems relieved to be mobile and not any worse off...
He also said it was cool to see how many people on the board have called, some he didn't even know. I don't think he has seen this thread yet either, so big ups to all the concerned mags.

An update on our buddy here. He is looking at the possibility of surgery, but his insurance co is fucking him over. His season might be over. There is some nerve involvement.

Also, he wins the TOTAL BADASS AWARD for self-extracting and not calling patrol/SAR.

I missed this the first time around, glad to hear things are going reasonably well.

Heal fast...here's to pretty nurses and good drugs, may you get plenty of both.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Had my second spinal surgery today. Both sides were decompressed and more bone fragments were pulled out. Doc says all nerves are now free. Before this surgery I was able to walk in a brace, but not very well. Both legs were weak and had nerve issues.

Surgery to fix my thumb yesterday was a breeze.

    thanks for the vibes

Powder snow skiing is not fun. It’s life, fully lived, life lived in a blaze of reality. What we experience in powder is the original human self, which lies deeply inside each of us, still undamaged in spite of what our present culture tries to do to us. Once experienced, this kind of living is recognized as the only way to live–fully aware of the earth and the sky and the gods and you, the mortal, playing among them. Dolores LaChapelle
