    188 S7 Mount point

At 200lbs, never ski switch, ski lots of powder, crud, variable conditions at Castle Mountain I did not like the S7 mounted on the line at zero. I felt the skis were too short for me, felt like I was fighting to not go over the bars at times, just not enough tip. Moved bindings back to -2 and now love these skis for soft conditions, really quick skiing powder in the glades. At -2 I feel like I'm balanced on the ski and have enough tip there even if the S7 feels pretty short. I'll prolly end up giving these to my kids and move up to the Super 7 in a 195.

this might be weird to ask, but does anyone else find event the Super-7 to be too small??
    ...to qualify that, I'm huge: 6'5" 240lbs, @ whistler.
I had the 188's at first. they felt stupid tiny. So I swapped to the 195 and it's a lot better but I still feel like I can't 'attack' as much as I'd like in deeper snow. they mounted by mistake at the 0 mark instead of the -2 I wanted, and before I remount and drill the crap out of my boards I want to get some opinions.
Is a re-mount going to make THAT much of a difference? Any big dudes tried both 0 and -2 mounts on a super7?

For statistics.. after reading this thread mounted S7 188s at -1.5cm.
    Me 185cm height, 73kg/160lbs
I never ski switch in powder just rearely on flat. I think the best mounting interval for this ski between 0 and -2. I measured the effective edge length(without tip and tail rocker) and 0 point is accurate in the center. And -1.5cm for tip float.

I work at Alta and rode Super 7's everyday this winter mounted at zero. They were an absolute blast, and surprisingly competent on groomers due to their stiffness. My fellow employee had the 188s and they were a little more floppy at high speeds but felt more playful in the trees than my 195's. I'll be putting them at either -1.5 or -2 for this season since I now have some k2 Hardsides for touring/groomers and will most likely only be using the Supers on pow days. I would definitely not mount them forward unless you absolutely love riding/landing switch. I am 6' tall and weigh 200 lbs.

This seems like the definitive answer to the S7 mounting point question. My only question is whether there have been any design changes to the 188 S7 since the post was written that would change the mounting point info. (I think not.) I have a pair of used S7s and haven't quite figured out which version they are.

Take these measurements from the tail of the ski toward the tip. Keep the measuring tape tight & straight.

This is what the 0 mark should measure:
    195 length = 89.3 cm
    188 length = 86 cm
    176 length = 80.4 cm
    166 length = 78 cm

If you never ski switch, or only rarely, mount your binding back -2 cm's:
    195 length = 87.3 cm
    188 length = 84 cm
    176 length = 78.4 cm
    166 length = 76 cm

If you ski switch in Powder, mount your binding forward +3:
    195 length = 92.3 cm
    188 length = 89 cm
    176 length = 83.4 cm
    166 length = 81 cm

About mount line changes from year to year:
The original prototype had a different mount line compared to the production version. So if any of you have a rep's demo, athlete's ski or were able to get a pre release hookup from Rossi (Jan 2008 to end of season) the 0 mark on that ski was at -2. For example:
    0 mark for prototype S7 in 188 length = 84 cm
    0 mark for production S7 in 188 length = 86 cm

I've had a demo binding on 188 S7's from Jan 2008 to today. With a demo binding you can try both mounts and 8 times out of 10 people like 84 cm.

    Cheers

For something between pow and groomers, mount them at 0. For anything else, read the post that is above your post.

So I've got some S7's mounted at -2cm but may need to switch the bindings soon.

To avoid hole pattern conflicts, the new binding may have to be mounted at -3cm.

    Any issues with this?

Yeah for the record I have FKS at -2 and was gonna re-do the FKS pattern with inserts then throw some DynaDuke plates on top of that, on inserts as well.
    Still debating this with myself.

    Thumbs up

    Me:
6"2, 235lbs, aggressive skier, Fernie pow, can't ski switch worth a shit but screw around every once in a while.

Mounted my Super 7's at 0 after some deliberation. Took a couple of days to get used to (kept thinking I was going to go over the handles) until a friend told me to get the sand out of my Vag and let em run.

Took the advice and love them. The mounting point is perfect foe me at 0

These do not like to be mounted back. most twin rocker skis should be closer to center. i would mount at zero. And yes, they are small for bigger guys. i am 6-2 180 and they are small. My 191 Lhasa are 1 cm shorter, so they are small. For bigger guys try XXl or big dump, megawatt, 196 renegade, 192 atlas, etc
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

I'd like to get the mount dialed for a pair of 2011 195 Super 7s - for a FREE HEEL binding. I scanned the threads a bit and assume most of discussion is for alpine bindings. I also studied the skis on the bench with a marker pen and a tape. I am putting an HH (hammerhead) on the ski, but will probably switch it with an NTN next year (or outside possibility of an AT binding).

Skier info: Fast, alpine or tele, or mixed. Ex-snowboarder. 6 ft / 185lbs. 25 years free heel skiing; Ski switch a bit but not seriously - bought this ski for deep pow to squirrely mank / PNW conditions and small drops.

Some ski specs: Most of the 117 mm waist occurs below or well behind the foot. The effective CRS (Center Running Surface) of the edge occurs 1 cm behind the "+5cm mark," and the balance point of the ski (without binding) occurs 3 cms forward of the +5cm mark.

Although I understand more centered jib mounts, and have custom mounted race skis often in more forward positions, I don't have much "big ski" experience; and these are asymmetrical skis.... My gut sense on this ski right now is to mount center boot at "-2cm" - That's a tail pull of 87.3 cm to the mark.

The ski comes with +5, 0 and -2 raised mark (not graphic) positions. Any help/observations much appreciated.

    Hi,
Not to beat a dead horse, but I just picked up a pair of 2014 188cm Rossignol Super S7. I checked out the measurements and it appear there have been some changes. The line marked on the ski (only 1) is now located at 88cm - which is 2cm forward of the chart from Baggins which seems to be the authority here (post #52? above). Do the same old rules apply: namely -2cm (from the marked line) if charging/powder/never switch, and +3 if you ride switch in powder? Or should I be looking at the measurements from the tail and stick with them - which would now mean -4cm from this marked line if charging/powder/never switch, and only +1 if riding switch in pow. Or is it like the JJ - and just everyone should now just mount on the line... (doubt it)? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've exhausted google on this one. Funny thing - on the Rossi website, when you expand the view of the Super 7, it seems to show 2 lines, my current line and one 2cm behind (but none 3cm forward) - but that didn't make it onto my ski.
