    Arc'teryx Sidewinder sizing

I searched and found some info but not fully applicable to me.

I'm 5'11 and c. 87kgs (192 pounds). I've currently got Eider gear which is XL but I was told at the time of buying that Eider runs small.

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a Sidewinder jacket but it's XL and I'm worried that it's too big as NA sizes differ from European ones. Any thoughts?

Well, thanks, saw that, which is why I'm worried it's too large, anyone who's has/had one care to comment?

There is a guy in this thread
    http://forums.epicski.com/showthread.php?t=76722
who is almost exactly your size and is very happy with his Medium Sidewinder AR. My wife and I have lots of Arcteryx stuff, visit the factory etc. and I would say you might want to go Large just to be safe. For what it's worth my wife found the AR's collar to be kind of a pain. BTW the SV (severe) is cut a little fuller than the AR (all round) to allow for extra layering in severe conditions.

That's very useful, thanks. On that basis XL is indeed too large for me. Oh well, I'll wait for an L to show up on ebay.

I am 6'3" and over 200 lbs. I have a large Sidewinder SV and it fits me perfect. I would not want it any smaller though. I do like my jackets to fit slim and trim (I hate bunching up under a pack). I find arcteryx gear is sized long. I wouldn't say it is sized larger, but definitely cut longer in the arms and where is falls on the waist. Really great for us long and lanky guys.

Go for medium or large if you like extra room. You'll be floating in an XL and unless your a gorilla you'll be draggin you sleaves!

Definitely get the large. I'm 6' 170lbs, and the medium just barely fits me. The XL would be way too long.

I'm 6'5" and 230lbs. The XL has lots of room for me.

I'm 6'1" 180 and the sidewinder xl fits a little baggy but not swimming. the arms don't seem long. I like to flail so I like baggy.

Responses to this thread are all over the map... partially because people have different preferences and viewpoints on sizing (and body sizes vary outside of simple height and weight), and partially because Arcteryx's sizes have gotten bigger in the last couple of years. My Medium Sidewinder (Fall 2005 vintage) fits me well (not Euro tight, but not super steezy either... more just "comfortable") at 6'1" 165 lbs. I have a slightly negative ape index, and a shorter torso (17" or so) for my height.

I'm 6'1" 170lbs and I've got a large Sidewinder (not sure if it's AR or SV) from a few years back (when they were still made in Canada). I tried the medium back then and it was too small (short to be exact). Recently, I tried a new medium Sidewinder AR on and it fit really well in the body, and was just slightly too short in the sleeves, so it seems that the newer AR is bigger. At your height, I'd think an XL would be too big.

Actually, the SV has a tighter fit than the AR, as the SV is a performance cut designed for alpinist pursuits while the AR is a tad bulkier and less articulated.

I find Arc'Teryx gear to be a little bulky in the shoulders and tight under the arms if you are a male with a broad chest. And I am not that big (5'11" 165lbs). I find the Large tends to be too big in the shoulders, but the Medium too tight under the arms. Depending on what you need the gear for (as a layer, or to accommodate layers) I would really endeavour to try the shit on.

When in doubt, go a little bigger, especially for skiing.

I'm 6'1"(185cm) and 200+lbs (92Kg) and my 5+year old Sidewinder SV is an XL. More important that height and weight is your chest size (I'm a 44 Reg). However, I've just determined that it's a tad too big for me and therefore I'm going to buy a new SV in L. I used to layer alot but now I find the newer base layers to be plenty warm.

BTW if anyone is interested (PM me) and let me know (it's in perfect condition and yellow).

I don't know if it's true but I could swear that their sizing has changed. All the newer Arc'teryx stuff that I am buying now is size L. Whereas only a few years ago I would not even consider an L. Could they have changed the cut or are people in North America really getting fatter?

Get a large, 100%. I'm pretty much your same build and the large fit perfect when I owned one - 06-07 model. Medium looks mad euro and XL would fit too gangsta.

Got the large last year and I'm 6 foot, 210 lbs. The large is money with still enough room to layer up. Go for the L not the XL

I purchased the 2008 Sidewinder SV in a medium. I'm 5'9" and 185 lbs. If you ski or climb with helmets, keep in mind that Arc'teryx hoods are sized really small. My ski helmet, a large R.E.D., could not fit completely under the hood, and I could barely get full coverage with my climbing helmet. I ended up returning the jacket. I loved the jacket, but it's a non-negotiable. If you need a hood that fits, Patagonia jackets have always worked for me.

6'1.5" ~200lbs 2006-ish Sidewinder Comp in XL fits nicely.

I got my Sidewinder SV in the mail yesterday and it was definetly cut larger than my other Arc'Teryx stuff in the same size.

I am 5'8", 175# and wear a large in the Stingray and the Gamma MX but this was cut just way too big for me. Sent it back for a Medium. It seems that Arc' Teryx jackets size differently depending on the target crowd who is to buy a particular design.

Best bet, if you can't try them on, is to order the two sizes you think you might be then go from there.

I'm 6' 190. I wear an Arcteryx Sidewinder, size Large. It's the right size for me.

6'1", 210. I have an XL AR and it fits nicely, the large is too tight in the shoulders

I'm a few pounds lighter and the Eider L is too small but the Arcteryx SW in L is pretty good fit.
BTW Arcteryx on ebay is better than 50/50 chance is either a fake or stolen, if you care about that stuff.
