    Sunset is already getting later...

for us northern hemisphere types. The following was actually written 9 days ago, on Dec 7th.

"...throughout the northern hemisphere – the earliest sunset of the year comes around now. That’s in spite of the fact that the shortest day of the year won’t be for another 2 weeks."

Unless you are one of those crack-of-dawn types, your ski days are already getting longer, so git on out there! (Also welcome news for the seasonal-affective-disorder afflicted amongst us.)

So the mornings are darker longer. That explains why I can't get out of bed in the morning (I'm a crack of dawner). (Insert "He's so horny he's ching out the crack of dawn" joke here.) I always assumed the daylight was, for lack of a better term, symmetrical around noon. The dude who named seasonal-affective-disorder definitely had a sense of humor.

daylight is indeed symmetrical around noon, but solar noon and our clock don't always match up apparently.

Personally, I don't much care when the sun comes up. My sunrise comes in a mug.

I believe that S.A.D. was first described in seattle. Seattle-ites could probably tell you why, as could vancouverites I guess (same weather.)
