EC Video TR: Tree skiing at Smuggs

Been filming up at Smuggs this winter. We got out on Friday and Saturday and made the best of the new snow. Enjoy!

That was very fun. The ending was sad, though... I cried.

smuggs is some seriously great skiing. its one of the few places- east or west- with great vibes, old school feel, and deep snow that comes outta nowhere- and you have it all to yourself. NICE short bit. you make me miss that place. can't wait to get back.

this is all a lie. Only nyc assholes go here. There is only ice, and the lifts are slow as death. Never go to smuggs, leave that misery to me, I can handle it. Everyone should go to mount snow for that radness.

Powder snow skiing is not fun. It’s life, fully lived, life lived in a blaze of reality. What we experience in powder is the original human self, which lies deeply inside each of us, still undamaged in spite of what our present culture tries to do to us. Once experienced, this kind of living is recognized as the only way to live–fully aware of the earth and the sky and the gods and you, the mortal, playing among them. Dolores LaChapelle

He's actually right. It's the land of slow, cold doubles and long hikes to get to anything decent. I have stockholm syndrome from my sentence there.

to answer some questions... its shot with a Canon XH-A1 HDV camera. POV shots are with the Vio Pov1.

Yes that is John Holcomb in the white jacket. Met him on the lift the other day, he rips.

And Bushwacker/anyone please do drop a line if you are skiing Smuggs and wouldn't mind skiing in front of the camera.
Could always use more people, and I'll be making more edits when it snows.

That was so fun to watch! Great skiing!

I went to Smuggs a few years ago and skied powder, including out to the road. Hiking was easy there, skiing was way challenging and I pretty much got my ass kicked. My skiing's changed so much now that I wonder how I'd like it these days.

Thanks for posting - took me back in time. Such a pretty place.
