It was a tasty, bluebird day today at the bowl, the sun had some effect on the snow, but the air stayed cold so it might not be horrible in the bowls tomorrow.

Been away for a few weeks, how much crud is hiding underneath?

I skied on Thursday with beginner friends. Hit the trees in Snowpark and was surprised at the snow quality. Also, I got a run down East Bowl and Chicken Chute. Both were better than expected. It sure looks like they would have gotten a bunch of snow today. I am interested to hear how much.
I'm blacked out on the midweek pass until Tuesday, so it's probably pretty good.

I know and love this guy, despite of or maybe because of his idiosyncracies. He has a substantial Snowbowl logo tattoo and that was a tough scene during his exile.
Also, Rasputin is the undisputed TGR historian of Snowbowl. I can't believe I had forgotten that Jim was the brother of S** ****, and I love explaining to my kids why her husband goes up early almost every day.
IS the brother of...not was.
Also, today was alright if you're into that sort of thing.
Snowing hard up high when I went for a couple late-afternoon naps but, uh, a bit of a zipper crust had formed across the mountain. It was in the process of being buried, so it felt like skiing through the crust of freshly-made crème brûlée that already had few bites already take out of it.
Everyone therefore needs to stay home tomorrow and not bother coming up.

Jenks, was it snowing down at the base/parking lot?
I'll be up tomorrow, but only after a morning appt.

Wow, the road was the slickest of the season this morning. There was a thick layer of heavy, dense, snow all over the mountain today. It got rather warm up there today, the sun even burned through the clouds a little bit. The snow was wet, the deep cold tonight will both cause the disturbed snow to harden (pistes were hardening unpleasantly at the end of the day) and the untouched snow to dry out. It was 6 degrees after the last ride up Lavelle. It was 10 degrees at the bar around 6pm.
There was rumor that the Bowl may not operate tomorrow, if the cold, and wind chill values, are too adverse, so check the report before driving up there tomorrow.

I showed up late but was quite pleased with the results. Managed a couple laps around the hill before the sun went away and I bailed.
If you didn't notice on the minor print of the snow report - closed Weds and Thurs due to cold.
Agree that skiing was fun on Tuesday. I finally got the big sticks out and proceeded to figure out how to ski them. Skis that I had been contemplating selling will now stay in the quiver. I also met some new faces and had some fun runs plus beer and pizza. Good times!
Sunday's snow was dreamlike, and at times caused my mind to wonder what was really going on, as it didn't seem like there was any real contact with the ground.
Monday, while there was a significant zipper crust, it was manageable, and encouraged skiing fast. The crust was lesser on the lower mountain, which was unusual, but the snow skied very deep.
Tuesday, the depth and density of the new snow pretty much erased any sense that there'd been a crust at all. We left plenty of trenches around the mountain, but there were not really so many skiers as to fully flatten even the higher traffic runs.
With the wind whipping, and additional snowfall, the mountain will be fully reset again by Friday (with significant drifts, scouring, and wind-slab), which should be a proper shit show.

I had a fairly nice time, was definitely good to be on big heavy stiff skis. took a couple down the front of tv in the powerline area and snow stayed pretty good in there all day. Seems like a lot of stumps and logs and shit under the snow though and getting into it is a bit interesting. Felt very mediocre finding myself at the top of two rocks approx 190.5cm apart and having to side slip between them.

Yeah, they didn't yard out a lot of the trees they felled below the cliff-band North of the power-line, and even below the apron of those chutes, there are a lot of felled trees, amongst the canopy, that didn't get yarded out. I had a fantastic run yesterday. down TV's East side, dropping in around "Slash-pile Point".

One of the loggers (also a lifelong SB skier) told me they didn't have a long enough line to pull everything out, or get to the bottom of some of the areas they were hoping to glade, but they are expecting to finish the job this summer.
I am guessing tomorrow will be The Most Interesting Day of the Year.
Yes, FWO program, Gelande jumpers, and angsty powder skiers who've been sitting for two days, will provide a mix of interests that should be truly special.
Frankly after skiing deep snow on Su-Mo-Tu, I really needed to rest my dysfunctional left knee, this worked well for me, so I can kill it tomorrow.

Brad's message this AM suggested that they may be slow to open some of the lifts today. It's wicked cold up there, so show up late, you wouldn't want to catch a chill.![]()
