Jer, all I'm sayin' is that when Lonnie first opened the hill, he was an asshat. He can't ski for shit (I've ridden with him), and he doesn't offer any kind of ticket deals to anyone with the exception of the killer $99 season pass deal. FNS tried to get him to give a cut to a group of 6 headed up there later this year and no dice. I talked to Lonnie on several occasions when I was working for Viosport and he never wanted to hook up tix in exchange for video content he could use on mountain's website (which blows ass by the way). I was at 'Tech before Bohemia was in operation, and hiked the hill a few times. It was great. Not saying that's its not great anymore, but I just don't know about Lonnie. I don't think he's a real trustworthy "core" sort of guy. I'm not saying that Boho isn't the shit for the midwest. I just wonder about that dude...he just seems a bit "off" to me, that's all. He lives in some twisted 1980s parallel gaper universe, like some really bad ski movie from the 80s.

Plus, I hear the dude really likes blow....a LOT, and I'm not a big fan of people that do a lot of blow. Regardless, my disdain for Lonnie isn't going to keep me from going to Boho when I have the time AND the conditions are right (which is almost never for me. Besides if I have that much time, I'd just as soon head out west for nearly the same $$$) Lonnie is just a little sketchy, that's all there is to it. He seems like a sleazy/shady deal sort of dude to me. And maybe his marketing approach to Boho IS to suck, so as to keep it under the radar as much as possible. If so, then great, its working. I mean, I'd rather not see that place blow up, have a village, and all that shit. It would ruin what makes the UP and the Keweenaw rad. I just think Lonnie has a way of making a lot more enemies than friends which to me seems like a schisty way to operate if you call yourself a skier.

And as far as not running the place into the ground, the dude has money coming out of his ass from Daddy. Plus, I'm sure Boho is just a tax write off for him any way. There's no way that place is profitable.

And Jer, WTF? Why are you so butthurt that we're all butthurt about Lonnie? I'm not trying to start shit with you, I think you're a pretty funny dude and one of the several entertaining people that call this community home, but why do you give a fuck if we (myself and others) think that Lonnie is such a fucktard any way? What's in it for you?

Haha...yeah, I seriously considered putting a [\BLOG] at the end of that...oh well.

Tell me I'm wrong though about Lonnie being schisty. The debate here is about Lonnie, not whether or not Boho is the sickest place in the midwest.

I am surprised a location that far up north gets cocaine at all. Entirely off topic, but I thought it would be more of a city kind of thing.

well the gangs in the city here have taken to meth, so it makes since coke is headed towards to country. Don't worry you can still get plenty of crack and heroin is coming back if that's your thing.

    Well...

    1) I think Lonnie's ok. And I'm one hardass anti-social sonofabitch. But then again I don't expect everybody to do a backflip off Horseshoe and ride it switch to the road while wearing the latest freeskiing haute couture.

    2) Spreading weird rumors on the internet about people is pretty weak. If Lonnie were posting here and it was some back-and-forth flame war, I'd be fine with that. But he's not - it's just a bunch of douchebags saying "He's a moron", "He does blow", etc. Super lame.

    3) The guy's dad is rich. Big deal. Yeah - if my dad were super rich I wouldn't have anything to do with him 'cause that's just not CORE BRAH!!!

    4) He doesn't give people the Bro Deal Hookups??? Oh my!!

Seriously guys, loosen the hell up. Everytime there's a mention of Bohemia here it turns into a pile-on on Lonnie. I'm just surprised that so far that anti-semite cocksucker from last year hasn't weighed in on the subject.

I have. What did you think?
As Minnesota goes, it's a nice addition. Welch is unrivaled in the TC area as far as terrain goes. Nice steep run, with just enough pucker to keep some of the herd out. I was on teles, and it was pretty icy, so fun for me. Had I been running alpine boards, no biggie. Sounds like they have more to do yet, so I'll be looking forward to it when it's all finished.

I interupt the Boho lovesfest to happily report that Cab's gnarlyass BC survived the metldown in pretty damn ggod shape. 6" of fluffy goodness atop a firm corn base... not good but a hell of a lot better than I had expected...

Inbounds was surprisnigly good too. Yes, there are icy spots but all in al, pretty damn good considering teh global warmingz. I blame Al Gore.

Forecasts are calling for moisture Tuesday night into Wednesday. FNS, I'm stoked to hear that things in Cab's sidecountry aren't totally fucked. I may head up there on Thursday if said moisture comes to fruition. I still wanna build that feature out there I was telling you about. My fingers are crossed.

I think that's cute that you cornfielders can get pumped up to ski in Cadillac. Especially those that drive 2+ hour to get there... That is CORE. Some of you might want to think about moving!!

Went to Crystal and had an alright day (minus screwing up my ski tip and losing my cell phone)

    http://icechewing.huddler.com/imgrep...L-DSC04203.JPG
Crack in the top layer of the ski + one screw that holds the tip down broke. Going to shop I bought them at in Holton today to see what the dealer says. Repair them and warranty them at the end of the season, or see if the guy will just take these back (get them warrantied), and I pay the difference for a ski without tips that scream "I will break off, look at me, it's just 2 screws".

Crystal had some nice terrain with trees available for the public, and the place had a lot of runs for people of all abilities. My girlfriend dug it more than Schuss Mountain. I have to say Caberfae probably tops Crystal in terms of vertical drop. The runs at Crystal were not that challenging and extremely short. If it was a difficult run that wasn't down a face-it probably had moguls.
Like Schuss though I enjoy the number of runs. But it is definitely turning in to a quality of the runs vs quantity of the runs. I wish every place had a "Crystal Clipper".

I thnk that if a place is run badly it should be talked about. Maybe the stories will get back to this guy who owns Boho. But I think you can't run a business by giving all your buddies and buddies buddies deals on things. Being where they are and the crowd they cater to I think they need every dollar they can get.

Also Crystal has funky snow. Maybe you guys can explain this. Caberfae I could ski their fake snow and never run in to patches where I slow down. Crystal I would be cruising along and hit some fake snow? And slow right down. What is the deal with that?

Yooper - For many of us it's 2 hours for Swiss Valley / Bittersweet / Timber Ridge or 4-5 hours for Cab.

That or hitting the 50 vert of local sledding hill.

Edit: Ryan - I did far worse damage than that to my ski last time I was at Swiss. Won't be hard to fix. Search around in Tech Talk or on epicski for help.

I'm not sure how you suddenly hit a patch of man-made snow, or even know the difference once it is all groomed out. They've probably haven't made snow since Christmastime up there anyways with all the lake effect. Maybe you found a snowsnake.

    Welch Bowl

Took the clan there last Friday. The "bowl" has promise with snow. After the rain from earlier in the week it was a bit icy.
I'm not sure of their time-line for adding the other proposed runs but once the work is done it should be a fun place to play by midwest standards.

    Re: Welch Village...

    Agreed, Nice addition. Comfy CHAIRS!

I was struck by the plethera of warning signs and the "double black" designation for that run down the middle.

I know the rating system is relative but Corduroy Double Black Diamond??

I was kind of embarased to ski on it...
