We've had over an inch of rain so far today, and it is still raining. It is supposed to cool down and turn to snow tonight. Hopefully it comes soon, with the snowmelt and rain, we'll be flooded.

No skiing tonight at Swiss, but they should be open this weekend with the colder weather coming back.

    Best ice tele ski

    For sale BD Machine 182cm

Used them ONCE last week in Big Sky. They are a little short for me. The only deal with them is that they have been drilled twice. The Machine is a great hard snow carving ski or if you live east of the Mississippi any kind of snow.

How about $250 OBO shipped to your door.

Temps dropping here, 48 and still raining. Now over 2.5", the ground is saturated and the river is getting higher. I hope it starts snowing soon.

I'll be the first to admit I have short, skinny skis. 170s, 80 underfoot. You need something turny for the 200 ft vert. 182 machines wouldn't be too bad for midwest.

I'm going to hibernate and play soccer and hockey for while until we get snow. Conditions are going to suck balls for a bit after this warm up. We're going to need a shit-ton of snow to cover up the inevitable glaze that will result from this horseshit. On a positive note, Tuesday I got over to Cannonsburg for few hours in the afternoon to hit really well built tables ( I know I could hardly believe it myself) in 60degree sunny weather. It made me miss corn snow days in Tahoe, but it was nice to get all jibtastic again. Ullr, if you're listening, please take a massive shit on us, I really, really, really hate icy conditions. Really.

Am I the only one who thinks Caberfae is an over-sized Cannonsburg that exagerates the number of trails? I went there and thought it blowed.

You mean you thought it blew? Cab is fun, you just can't go there when conditions = teh suck. I'll be the first to admit though I can get bored there unless they have fresh snow. I really wish they had built some tables this year. But an oversided Cannonsburg? Nah...

I disagree totally. It really isn't that much bigger than Cannonsburg.

    RP,

You just haven't explored Cab to its full potential. There are a lot of places to play. You just have to know where to look.

Considering it is probably the ski area of choice for Southern Michigan and Indiana mags, you are the only one that thinks that. Cannonsburg has what 250 feet of verticle, Cab is approaching 500. I would say that is a big difference...especially considering lift tix at Cannonsburg are more than they are at Cab. (meaning if you pay full price at Cab, you are Failing as a Mag).

Maybe my late night responses hide the sarcasm too much. Hopefully the poster has thick skin.

Speaking of Cab - March 20-22 anyone?

If Cannonsburg has 250ft of vert, and Cab has 5-hundo, I have 5 eyes and 2 toes.

Cannonsburg probably has more like 150-200ft of vert tops, and Cabby, probably goes about 350 ( I think their official claim is either 375 or 4-something), but if they're saying 4-something then their measuring from the lowest point in that drainage north of the parking lots b/c there's no way there's 4-hundo of skiable vert there. I think Mtns, Highlands, and Nubs claims of 500, 550, and 450 are about the only legit vert claim in the LP. Everyone else is just dick-waiving. No matter what the actual vert is, how you choose to make it count is what matters.

This weekend may not be ideal, but skiable. Light snow in the forecast, certainly on top of a crust of ice by now. But is that really much different than normal conditions for us? I'd ski if I didn't have to work all weekend.

I thought Cab was claiming somewhere between 450-500. I'd guess half to 2/3 of that is sustained at a decent pitch on their steeper slopes, but I'm not sure if you have to ski to the road for that figure. Not too bad for the area, but we've already had the vert dick-waving thread.

1.1 to 1.6 inches have fallen around Cadillac / Thompsonville.

Temps are only at 32 degrees currently though. The next 24 hours will really determine what my plans are for the weekend.

Pbourbon....Cab is claiming the highest peaks in Lower Michigan...now I am not sure if they are making a play on words and meaning southern Michigan or if they mean anything besides the UP. But I do remember someone telling me they were saying they had close to 500 feet of vertical. That main run of North peak, to skier right of the the chair makes you pole up like 10 feet and then dips down into a hole pretty deep, probably eaking out another 10 to 20 feet of "extra vertical" that disappears as you ease up to the chair line. It seems every year that Upper Canyon gains about 5 feet of hieght and sinks another 5 feet into that dip at the bottom. I think they take the dirt from the bottom and add it to the top. LOL

note: the Statistics page on the cab website is mysteriously blank this evening... Whats up with that INDY ???

but this site at least has a comparison....

    http://www.skiengine.com/resorts/usa...i-resorts.html

But Nate's right...this was beat to death already...I don't think anyone in the midwest claims legit vert. Maybe I need to carry the GPS with me next time at Cab and get a measurement at the top and bottom. And regardless, its still the best deal in Michigan for skiing......
