I think you should swap one of the 180s with my 190s... After all, I'm smaller than you or Veikko...

i have the explosive 2's picked them up in pristine shape for 80 dollars with bindings at the local ski swap...have a quiver of fat and mid fat, but these quickly became my favourites. 190's can not stop riding them, big heavy basterds, but hot damn, very good.

The "Snow Ranger" LTD version was very rare indeed. Skis like the original G30 and G40 were in the line at the same time and very close to the ranger dimension-wise, and getting a lot more attention.

The Explosiv LTD was never expected to see the light of day that year. For all intents and purposes, the Explosiv had been discontinued. Then a funny thing happened...many spring testers thought our new ski, the G40, sucked. So we went back and did 2 things: 1) completely re-tool the G40 - the ski that was ultimately delivered to retailers that fall was very different from the test samples from the spring, and 2) make sure we had a safety net...so we dusted off the Explosiv mold. There was no graphic ready to go, so we used the "Range LTD" graphic minus the "Ranger" part.

squaretail: So how many would have to be ordered to get that mold back for a "reunion tour" ? 50pr? 500pr? 5000pr?

C A: if you want to try a pair ever, let me know. I think that you will like the 190's

Ever notice the skis actually being skied in the photo have metal tips? I've noticed them on Mantras never the Budahs.

At least 1000, but I don't know if that would do it. As I said above, they say the mold is "gone."

had my old explosiv 2's out over the last couple of weekends for some early season touring. they have the werid boot toe mount, but i just lined them up next to my cmh's and midsole for a 304mm turned out to be about 2cm forward of the boot toe thingy. that said, i think going forward of that kinda missed the whole point of the explosiv. you can use that long nose to push weird snow out in front of you and absorb. skied everything from windblown to thigh deep cream pow, they still rule it all outside of ice groomers and super fluff.

I was watching an old TGR flick on the way to Edmonton yesterday and noticed that at the begining of a Kent Kreitler segment he was carrying and odd looking white ski on his shoulder. Fat (for the vintage), big K2 logo on the tip, and bright red sidewalls. Kinda struck me as strange how most K2s from that vintage were of torsion box design.

Lots of people tour with explosives. It has always been well liked for that purpose. Yes, it is on the heavy side for a dedicated touring ski. You probably wouldn't want to do a 40k traverse with it, but for day trips and climbing for turns, it works well.

Wasn't the Olin "Outer Limits" a version of the Explosiv...I thought I read that somewhere, but can't find it.

    True or False?
If true, anyone have a picture?

(I think I found some nearby on CL. Pretty good price, if it's true. They look kinda 'sploder-ish, but the pic is tiny.)

Cool thread. I tour on Explosivs and Freerides and it works well. Yes, it is on the heavy side, but the weight is fine for most tours.
    D'oh!!
