Also never skied a pair. I'd love to. I think back when I was getting my first pair of fat skis, and I was deciding between Pistols, Wizard Explosives, and MSPs. I ended up choosing the Pistols, and I still have them, but have always wanted a pair of those Explosives now. 190 Wizards would be the tits.

I've got a pair of 04/05 190 CMH Splosivs and they're definetly quite a bit shorter next to all my other skis. I never measured, but I'd say they're maybe on the high side of 185.

I hardly ever ski on them because although they're great skis, I have other skis that are greater for their intended purpose. I should really get rid of them, but so far have been unable to bring myself to do so. When I sold my last pair (original yellow ones) I was kicking myself in the ass for years.

On second thought, it looks like they're 2005's, not 2006. Either way:

I have skied every vintage other than the purple/blue/yellow 2ed gen. Currently own wizards, buddas and 1st gen neons in 190cm, love them so very much.

What would be an appropriate vintage binder for these? p18? FKS? 916's?
I'm partial to the old school cool of these... any recommendations on the hot setup for Buddhas back when they were new? mount on the line or?

I've been away from skiing for the past 20 years(working my ass off) after growing up on Colorado Sunshine, and rediscovered my passion a couple years back. Damn I'm kicking myself for missing out on those 20 ski seasons, but at least now I've got the time & money to enjoy it with my boys, and a kick ass mountain 30 minutes away.

There are still no blue skies like Colorado though, man I miss that place. Soak it up boys, you've got it goooood.

Congrats, and thanks for the offer! I was actually going to Anchorage after new years, but economic reasons say it´s not going to happen.

I found a new pair of 180´s for ~$100, but they were sold. The seller also had some 190´s, but he was keeping them for himself.

Nice topsheets -- haven't seen that one. Besides PNH & CMH, any other heli companies use the Explosiv with custom graphics?

I have Owned the 190 Big Kahuna, 190 sploder 2 and now the 190 Wizards, and I agree with Bluebird they are just a do anything great every day ski. He also is the one who got me into them.

And BSS I know we had a failed first attempt on a sploder transaction, but if you ever want to unload those PNH's you have a buyer here, mostly likely amongst many others.

    Budda - Maroon with budda
mtnlion sent me a PM and asked me to contribute what I know to this thread. Jaxson has it pretty much correct, but I can fill in a little more detail:

The original yellow version came out in the fall of 1993, my first year with the company actually, and people thought they were ridiculous. I can't remember how may times we heard crap like "If you need those to ski powder, you obviously don't know how to ski powder."

The product development manager in those days was a guy named Rainer Staub, though many other folks had a hand in the project. The original mold was an adapted snowboard mold and the skis were made one at a time (like a SB) not in pairs like the other models. The original core was actually a finger-jointed horizontally laminated core of poplar. We switched to a more consistent vertical laminate for the Explosiv 3.

This yellow version continued unchanged for the 94/95 season. The blue Explosiv 2 was 95/96 and 96/97 and the Explosiv 3 was 97/98, and - I think - 98/99.

For 99/00, there was the rare Vertigo LTD, not named an Explosiv, but that's definitely what it was. In 2000/01 the V-Explosivs came with the altered semi-twin shape. Then 2004 the final red buddha version returned to the original square tail, and now you all know where my username comes from. The red one was available for 2 seasons.

As for the special versions, the CMH ski came first, in 1995/6 or so. The PNH came a couple of years later, and they both had a couple of different graphics over their lifespan.

The guys at the factory tell us the mold is gone, but I dunno...Next time I am over there, I think I'm going to go on a weissbier-fueled midnight raid and find it...

    Thanks for listening.

173 cm was added in early 2000's as well. Before that 165 (ladies), 180 (old men), 190(mens version)

so the original yellow "explosiv" was offered to the public and CMH got it at the same time? And both were the same?

Also the red version (2004) was the last public one? Volkl kept making the ski for CMH for a few years, and added the channel down the middle (lighter and softer) for the final year ('06?)

I'll have to swing by the CMH office and take a picture of the line up. (also will include the rossi CMH that was a softer 4S, and the miller soft too)

    Thanks for the info Squaretail.

Any plans to bring our beloved ski back?

As I sit here I am looking at 9 pairs of explosivs of varying vintages. I am tuning a couple of pairs for Uppernotmaster, so they aren't all mine and bumpskiers.

I still need some 180 wizards...anybody out there?

now it looks like the search is on for the elusive Vertigo LTD.

Correct. I'm not aware of any construction differences between the original yellow and the original CMH.

Yes, the red Buddha was the last public one. I don't know exactly how many more CMHs were made after that. I don't think they necessarily ordered every year...I'm pretty sure they ordered a big enough quantity that they didn't need to reload for a couple of seasons.

    Yep.
    I bought those new.
Must have been the second 94/95 season of the yellow topsheets.
My ski bud would not stop raving about them.
I swallowed my pride and bought 'em.
Not only were they fat as hell, but they were so day glow neon that you could not miss them a mile away.
Had many many great days on them. they did not last more than a couple seasons, though, which was surprising since I was embarrassed to be seen on them if it wasn't deeeep pow. I got Snowrangers the next year and those seemed much more palatable to the local snobs.

Funny how much fatter my quiver is these days.

I scored two pairs 180cm for 60€ One is explosiv 2 and other one is v-explosive, last one is in damn good condition and explosiv 2 has only couple of bigger scratches. Good deal I think.

Or what do you think, Hema and Keksie?
