Jokes on you. We don’t give a fuck that you don’t give a fuck. So many fucks given presents a fucking impossibility of possibilities. This an attempt at irony or needy validation? No one cares, either way.

I was given an Expobar Brewtus III.
I guess I need to do some reading in this thread.
I also need to buy a tamp, a grinder, a different Porta-filter, and a digital scale (?)
Didn’t come w a Porta-filter?
Yes to all the above. Definitely get a digital scale. Anything with gram weight will do. It’s important to be consistent with your dosing. It’s all about changing one variable at a time so if you don’t know your grind dose you’re forever chasing multiple variables. Get a good espresso grinder. It is worth the investment but looking at $500+ if you really want to get serious about things. Hand grinders can allegedly get you quality grinds at a much lower price point but never used one myself. Tamp doesn’t have to be fancy just the right mm to match your portafilter size.
Ask questions here as you have them. For the most part folks here are super helpful.
Get quality beans although to start out you’ll be a wreck w shot quality so perhaps get a bag of “good” medium roast grocery store beans to just eff around with to try to get shot ratios in your target range.
I have been using an Expobar Office Lever for 10+ years I love. Upgraded w flow control but took me some time to get there.

plan on spending a little bit of money for a decent grinder - lots of reccs in this thread, the DF54 seems to be a strong contender for bestest, cheapest choice
tamp and portafilter and a blind basket to back flush (clean) your group - espresso parts and mischief workshop are good budget options, Amazon also has some cheap stuff
i can probably mail you some accessories and some beans too

As you’re aware Dee this thread is a treasure trove of priceless advice and info - and like bikes there is no bottom to the rabbit hole you can go down coffee bean and equipment and technique wise.
Another option (what we do in our household) is to find a great and dependable source of espresso beans, dial in a high quality grinder, machine, and technique, and then make consistent espresso every day - sort of a set it and forget it.
Then we use a hand grinder and aeropress to sample other varieties of beans to keep it interesting.
To each their own though - I get the passion to take a hobby (especially a food or drink hobby) and explore its limits!
I was just debating selling my DF64 with upgraded red SSP burrs. Burrs are probably worth more than the grinder. My main reason for selling is that I primarily like light roasts and I just got a new precision basket that requires an even finer grind and while the df64 will grind that fine no problem it produces clumps. Let me know if interested.
On that note, wow what a difference a precision basket makes in shot quality. Other than changing grinders that’s the biggest upgrade in quality I’ve found and it only was $40. I’m now getting leopard spots / stripes on almost every shot, more fruit flavors, clarity.

I have a df54 and would buy it again for the price. I am a dark roast fan and conical curious but couldn’t justify the extra money for a niche zero. I think the df54 looks better as well.
My neighbor who gave this to me, mentioned he was having problem with the "pressure". Upon further examination it's not sucking water into the system from the water tank. SO it's all pulled apart and a new vibration pump kit has been ordered. We will see how this goes.
He is out of town for 6 weeks, and told me to go to his house and use his scale, grinder and beans until I decide what to buy for my self. At a quick glance I believe it's a DF83.
Clarification, it came with a Porta-filter, I just need a solid basket or plug for back-washing.
How is that thing so cheap?Originally Posted by carlh;[emoji[emoji6[emoji640

However many are in a shit ton.
has anyone found a USB rechargeable grinder that can go fine enough for a Mocha pot / espresso use? My pop-top camper has very little power, and a propane stove, so mocha pot is my preferred way to go, but trying to find a way to grind beans is hard.
Also I'm too lay to use a hand grinder
Hand grinder with cordless drill?

Good hand grinders are pretty fast. Thirty to forty five seconds. As stated you could add a cordless drill just don’t spin fast.Originally Posted by mntlion;[emoji[emoji6[emoji640

was thinking this?
For a coffee snob like me that’s hot garbage but it will get the job done. If I was going away for <three days I’d just pre grind in a good grinder over using a cheap ceramic burr. They just produce a lot of fines.

Random bump.
I was 37 years old when discovered the cortado….
Historically I’m an americano / black drip guy… but this cortado thing is legit.
Reminds me of the formula for a booze forward cocktail…. If you hit that perfect ratio of liquor, vermouth, and bitter or acid - it’s a smooth, excellent drink - if you are too heavy handed on one component; it goes to shit…
Cortado - The balance of bitter and rich. The size. The temperature. Perfection.
Any more milk - why drink coffee if you don’t want to taste it? Too big, too cold… etc…
Any less milk - why even add it…

Macchiato (a real one) is my preference.
Corridors are great for tasing more than “coffee” in your espresso shot. Sometimes the milk can help accentuate certain flavors, like nuttiness.
