good, cheap (for "hipster" beans), sourced from my favorite green distributor.

plus the dude who runs cimmaron, eric, is a great guy. i was a loyal customer for years until i got into roasting, at which point he shared a ton of knowledge with me, provided feedback on my roasts, etc. super cool of him.

Perfect. Thanks! Decaf is a new frontier for me. The two types I’ve tried so far weren’t gonna fly. I’ll give cimarron a shot.

yeah I tried 18G AND its less than I usually use, makes a weaker cup

i pretty much cram as much as I can in the porta filter and run it 30sec , caller good

So for those who roast, what are you using? I started out with the SC/CO method and got decent results. Now using a behmor which made mediocrity more convenient. Been wanting to step up for a while but space is a factor for now.

pulled this shot today and was fucking stoked on it - 17g in, 28.5 out, 38 seconds, 198 degrees, 60% ethiopian sidamo shantawene organic dry processed, 40% honduran comoyagua washed.

apologies for the dirty work station, but you can see the "drug scale" in action there.
    That looks amazing. Droooool.....

I may not get laid every day but ^^ Sylvia puts out every morning,

I also have a Breville Roma which is not a bad cheaper espresso machine

and 2 capresso infinity grinders which are pretty good/cheap burr grinders

the reason for 2 machines is one at home and one at GF's

I think its nice to have them as 2 machines, If / when one breaks the other is still OK.

$500 DeL. nice good value. Hunt on the main site, but also look at best buy, and in CND too.

    espresso making mags?

Its been a few years, but the couple lower end de’longhi machines I’ve tried at friends houses were not good. Granted, the grinders they had were also not good.

If I was limited to <$500 right now I’d get a Cafelat Robot (which is what I’m using currently) or a Flair (lots of good reviews from friends and up higher in this thread). My robots been lots of fun, easy clean up, and makes tasty espresso. These newer “lever” machines also seem to have an easy learning curve for some reason.

    1) any more modern lever presses?

    2) how (in general) do they compare with an old school lever press (what has been improved)

This is great. I just took apart and thoroughly cleaned my Rocky after not being able to dial in the grind. Anything you’d do differently on the worm drive mod? I’m not afraid to drill into the body

I’ve had a nearly-identical setup for ~6-7 years and love it. How often do you fiddle with the PID settings? I’ve largely set-it-and-forget it at same temp and pre-infusion timing, and if I need to cut or extend the pour time I do so with the switches, but wonder what I’m missing out on...

The worm drive mod has held up just fine, and I don't think I would change anything! I am the same with the PID - set & forget. I do adjust the set-point for various blends. Typically a little higher temp for lighter roasted coffees.

Only 1 trip to Home Depot and zero injuries! Made the brackets a little more permanent and added a spring to move the worm drive aside for the ~2 times a year we make regular drip coffee. Could be a slightly better fit/smoother but no complaints. Thanks for the idea and step-by-step tutorial, snoboy

I’ve used the Wacaco version camping. Usually with a pre-ground Illy can from the grocery store. It’s fun! Tastes good for what it is. Often would get requests and end up making a round for everyone while other folks cooked breakfast. Went through two rather quickly within one year, with gaskets blowing out on them, so durability may be questionable. I’ve largely switched back to my aero for camping.
