Baratza start around $380. Any real experience with what and why?

Not a coffee aficionado. I have a decent gaglia espresso machine but nothing crazy. My wife has a good bonavita brewer. I'm not a dentist. I like my espresso and my wife drinks a pot of coffee each damn day.

So I'm looking for a mid level burr grinder that can ground for espresso (fine) and a flat bottom drip.

I have no idea why I just posted five times instead of once.

gaggia mdf turned step-less has worked fine for entry level. The doser function works better at breaking up clumps more than anything else.

...is the one usually recommended in the < $ 250 category. Ours has been great for 5+ yrs of regular use.

We have a pretty cheap burr grinder that grinds good coffee once you get it dialed in, but is a huge mess and hard to clean. It shoots coffee out horizontally into the container instead of down from the top.

Are more expensive ones still this hard to clean? Or is that part of the value you get?

That's the one I have too. Going on several years of fairly regular use now, works well. Only criticism is that when I remove the plastic catch bin with fresh ground coffee in it, static causes a bunch of coffee grounds to fly out. Messy.

a local roaster just sold me this, as the temp and humidity fluctuated too much for them to use the gram dosing. Bladed just replaced, and should last me another 10-20 years.

Another Capresso Infinity vote. Used multiple times daily for the last few years. Like the timer so that I know how much coffee it will drop every time. It seizes up once a year or so but a simple disassembly, dust out and reassembly and you are good to go. Now that I think about it I should post it in the best tool I own thread.

I haven't done the step-less mod, but am happy with the grind quality. I hate the f'in doser, I can never get all the ground coffee out, but I didn't consider the breaking-up-clumps aspect so maybe I should be happy. Love how sturdy & heavy it is.

Pretty amazing - the number of hand operated machines (La Pavonis on the cheap) coming out since I last looked into this.

The latest one to catch my attention is the Rok:

BTW, my Rocky grinder is 17 years old and running strong.

I just got a la cimbali m30 bistro at a silly deal, but its too big (and needs 220V wiring) dual head. very light use from a now closed, remove, coffee shop/restaurant.

anyone want to trade for a smaller, home based machine?

not my pics but same machine

would LOVE a rancilio silvia or similar

That’s sweet. Wiring 220 would be a project for sure though. I bet you can watch the electric meter spin when it heats up.

I live in banff/canmore (resort towns) so lots of resturants come and go and sometimes I get silly deals on old machinery that is not working.

    So I have a mazzer mini b
    (https://idrinkcoffee.com/products/ma...ctronic-type-b)

that I have all cleaned up (motor working) and based on my research it looks like the main CPU/mother board is not working.
I have looked visually and none of the wires and welds/soldering seem loose.
Is that just a suck it up and replace the whole part? or any chance that it can be fixed and how do I tell what part to fix?

not the same but a small fryer i had needed a 110v->10v step down transformer as a power supply to the board, $15 on ebay and it works now. i would start with the plug and work your way to the board.
