Canvas and sail thread?
If you need to patch, it's time to spring for a new pari. Carharts
Since you like sewing so much, you could probably make them into a pretty sweet purse:

you could make a lampshade out of halcyon for practice.
a really big greasy one I bet.
I have tried for 7 years. Nothing works. Just buy a new pair.
I was originally going to go with the classic Fuck your Mother, but I feel like I need to cross 10,000 posts before I can get away with that.
I don't flyfish (yet), but I see where you got that from.
So I don't understand. Why can't you patch them?
that's all i can think of, but i'm sure there's something else...
I dunno. its sad. the hole goes beyond the stitching. howeveer. Ive got a prototype in progress Im gunno try this weekend. Slap dat bitch on both sides with duct tape and sew it right into place. hopefully it works out i guess
I'm missing something. Why can't you patch them? Put some fabric on either side of the hole and sew it in place?
that's all i can think of, but i'm sure there's something else...
What type of sewing machine to you have/use for this? And are ya using some "cute" fabric for the patch?
Edit: for any advice look to the internet for "patch hole in jeans" etc for decent suggestions... besides me, I doubt there are many schneider meisters on TGR, so you'll have to look outside?
Edit #2: before closing my youtube search window I clicked on another link because it mentioned hand sewing... and this "Mindy teaches you how to fix a hole in your crotch so your balls don't show." How could I not also post this one up???

If some of the best times of my life were skiing the UP in -40 wind chill with nothing but jeans, cotton long johns and a wine flask to keep warm while sleeping in the back of my dad's van... does that make me old school?
"REHAB SAVAGE, REHAB!!!"
Keep the old pair and use that to patch holes in the new pair as soon as they start to develope. That and don't wash them as often as a pair of regular pants. Thats what really wears them out.

I've been using this years. It is quick, easy and lasts. I was skeptical at first but it really does work. If any off you city slickers are looking to boost your mountain cred I'll break your 34/32s in for a small fee. I'll throw the wood glue and subfloor adhesive stains in for free.
In the past I've just used those iron-on patches and put them on the inside. It seemed to work pretty well, although I did this before any hole got to far out of control. It was mainly preventative.
I concur. Carhartts are at their best when they're absolutely filthy.
Maybe you should just sack up and buy a pair of actual skiing bibs this year.
OK, so were is the cheapest place to buy new pairs too?
Ace in Granby, CO has a buy 1 get 1 1/2 price deal going on now. I don't suggest buying online unless you know the exact size and style. Different types fit differently. It also seems places like Sierra Trading Post get many mis-sized pairs. That being said Sportsmans Guide and Cabelas usually have good deals. I recomend "Dungaree Fit" for comfort and breathing room for the boys [/everyday Carhartt wearer]
Mntlion: SAC if you can catch them, otherwise I just hit up Mark's for selection/price. I might have a coupon lying around somewhere too.
