Newer sleds are definitely closing the access gap that a bike provides. I still think they take a fair amount more skill to go technical places. I haven't ridden a snowbike that has the pure grunt and ability of a sled. I'm happy on my Axys with a 36" front end.

Sleds vs Snowbikes - There's a reason sleds have 100+ horsepower.

Snowbikes and sleds are not interchangeable. They both have there specialties. Maybe one day Polaris with change this.

    Well there is this:

    https://widescape.ca/ws250/

which seems to be a mixture of the lack of hp and track of a snowbike without the agility. So basically the worst of both. Which is just what no one asked for.

Mostly I just want to go sledding. Even just a trail ride to hang out with my friends, bullshit and have a beer.

I did find some foil trays with lids that fit in the hot dogger which is nice.

Anyone got a handlebar bag they like that doesn't cost $300?

Got my free to me project sled running, it only has 178 miles on it!!!
    2011 summit 800 etec 154

But the gauges are giving me fits, they powered up and self test ok but speedo and tach no signal. Odo is ok and can cycle modes.
Chaincase speed sensor plugged in, all plugs ok, disconnected and reconnected, re-soldered plug pins to PCB, added additional ground to chassis.
All that according to Internet research. I can't believe the gauges are borked.
Other possibly is a short somewhere.

Gauges do go bad. Dealers have a test gauge they can use to determine whether it's the gauge or something else. Should be pretty cheap if you set it up right with them, e.g., tell them exactly what you need to be diagnosed.

Yeah Vic! InstaWinter here. Got out on Sunday and it was way better than expected. That looks like some great terrain. Is that a burn in the background?

I have Toms Snowmobiles 20 minutes away, which is amazing.
They have been super helpful with parts and advice getting this old dinosaur going. But their advice was also "don't spend any $ on it"

Sucks going in there and seeing all the new, modern sleds for sale, though, that hurts.

The Tach might be nice, but not required.

Speedo is not necessary at all.

Does the temp gauge work? - that is a necessity.

It is a 2011 Summit you might just want to take what you can get, unless it is just for the fun of fixing it.

This. Tach is nice for knowing if your clutching is dialed in, but on a 2011 I'd just wan't to know that it's not overheating.

What's funny is you need a separate $100 module to plug into existing wiring to activate the existing temp gauge in the cluster on this sled.
    Fuckers.

I'm looking for digital readout alternatives...

My 2014 Ski Doo Summit XM doesn't have a temp gauge.
    How do I add this?

'14 XM should have come from the factory w/ the module to allow temp to show on the gauge. Have you cycled through all the modes on the gauge? Guessing if you do, you'll find the temp reading.

Looking great up there! Any carnage? Might head that way this weekend if the forecast holds.

A lot of sleds don't have a gauge but an indicator light for high temp. On cats the light flashes at an elevated (but not damaging) temp, and stays on solid when you're reaching temps that will mess stuff up. Might say "temp" or something on the digital gauge too. Your XM probably has a light or the digital display warning or both.

My partner hit one rock the first day . Bent the ski and scraped the spindle but no big deal .
Road in might be rocky depending on how much rain they got

    "Optional" feature on this year.

I have an overheat warning light, but not a temp gauge.

In that case you can either buy the module that adds the gauge or just not worry about it since knowing that you're overheating is all you really need to know and the warning light accomplishes that.
