hahaha... forget Cats and call around to all the Doo dealers to see who has a spring order T3 package available. Its the only way to go in wet coastal snow. The turbo'ed out Polaris's were turning out and the T3 just kept on climbing. You have to be in a real tight/deep spot or just not paying attention to get that thing stuck!

Lets try this again. Picking up (another) new pro tomorrow. This time 163 and am changing the clutching and reinforcing the tunnel right away.

That would be the ultimate, but don't think I will have th e budget for that. Maybe in the spring when people start unloading this years in order to put down a deposit on next years upgraded and improved.....

Succumbed to the stoke and drank the koolaid (although not the Doolaid). 2014 M8000 demo. Got it front Andrew at Route 99. 1300km and two year warranty. Picking it up next week after I get back from a quick trip back to Calgary to grab the trailer, other sled and sledding gear. Stoked to say the least.

Good move on getting something with a powdercoated tunnel. You have no idea how much sludge hanging out where your feet want to be you're saving yourself from.

I actually like the green. Always have gone for bright colors on my cars and toys if I could.
What add ons should I look at? Putting on. CFR rack, and tether. Maybe a skid plate?

Pretty stoked on my TMP rack, saw a CFR in the flesh the other day and it's tiny in comparison. The TMP holds a ton of shit, holds snow well for melting on the rad, very adjustable cargo and ski position, and it flexes when it needs to for rollovers (had a few, skis rack everything unscathed...)

A set of Polaris gripper skis. Makes a huge difference.

Yeah - you need to get a real set of skis on that thing. Otherwise, good sled with a *strong* motor.

Took me a few seconds to figure out what that was.

Polaris ski is the best choice? Or are they just the cheapest good replacement? And just how much do the stock skis suck? I am pretty much a beginner so need to get some experience before I think I would even notice a difference.

Skis make a big difference, especially fat vs skinny in deep snow.

I vented out my sled and I am really happy I did. It runs 10-15 deg under what it used to in spring conditions. Thermal expansion is a bitch

Personally I wouldn't touch anything mechanical. Leave it stock. Aftermarket exhaust, clutch etc are BS IMO.

Those polaris grippers are the shit for a few reasons.

1: they flex at the tips quite a bit and then get progressively stiffer. This helps them float really really well. A lot of after market skis (especially most of the C&A ones) are just way too stiff and burly. The stock ac skis are almost as good but they're way too skinny.

2: Wider than those stock ones, by a good bit. You already know what that does in deep snow. Flotation is everything on a 500lb beast like that.

3: Taller keel. This does two things. It helps you countersteer and get the sled over on edge easier on stiffer snow. The taller keel helps you 'fall into' a turn a lot easier. It also helps you steer with the skis poking along at 2mph in tight spaces in soft snow where there's no room to lay the sled over.

4: They're polaris so they're really common, and yes, cheaper.

But yeah you obviously need a rack. Tinymopros out of bellingham or CFR from canadistan make the best off the shelf ones IMO. You can also make one too but don't fuck around with rifle racks. Do something stout.
I'll probably stand alone on this but also look at some aftermarket running boards. Something like the skinz airframes, the black diamond extreme arctic cat boards (arctic cat sells these too, they're the same thing), or B&M fabrication boards make life a lot easier. Especially in ski boots. They improve handling immensely because they're so much stiffer. I'd do the other stuff first and see how annoyed you are by the stock running boards first. Then you'll understand the need for them a little better.
I'll never own another sled without running boards like that.

That's a ridiculously good 'first sled purchase'. Just don't fuck it up in the first five minutes like JJ here.

Not completely first sled, I had my brothers AC EXT 580, but might as well be for the difference in technology.

Doing CFR. they are made just down the road from the the dealer I bought the sled from. So getting a matching GREEEEEEN one.
