No lack of RE back there, but I dont dare leverage it out! Putting my CFR rack almost right behind the seat. Gonna add on tunnel stiffeners and a HD bumper. Apparrently a prototype came back with a buckled tunnel, but that was Rob Alford dropping off big shit, so Im probably pretty safe in that dept. Im more worried about the flimsy new A arms and whatever else they machined out to drop weight!

Got out yesterday, CO Front Range. Maybe 20-30" new in the past week, on top of dirt, stumps, rocks & nothing. There was a little windfill up high prior to the cycle, but pretty much starting from scratch.
Was nice to get out. Was a week-long storm, basically, so it LOOKED freaking fantastic - but no bottom, just unconsolidated snow on top of everything. Had a good time. Wound up making a road up a moderate pitch over willows/brushy crap. There's a catroad there midwinter; the catroad crosses a creek and goes straight up. The creek is not easily passable this time of year (don't want to say IMPOSSIBLE, as it is surely POSSIBLE...but....yeah).

The Skandic is freaking unbelievable. A mountain sled certainly COULD have gotten straight up this thing - buried brush, rocks, stumps, who knows what else - but you'd have to do it fast. A-arms = $$$.
Skandic? Low range, slow, chug forward til no more, reverse five feet, repeat. Took me maybe five minutes to make a lovely road up what was otherwise a potentially expensive pain in the ass, bordering on "not worth it." Rode the Skandic up, turned around, back down, retrieved friends, away we went.
The more I ride the Skandic, the more I like it. Yeah, heavy pig, and yeah, it won't do a few things, but damn, it does everything else SO much better than a mountain sled.

If I had the coin I'd pop on a scandic or Tundra Extreme, no question for skiing (as I rarely use my mountain sled for skiing anymore, it only gets used for sleddingDon't need a sled to ski the big W around here). The newer Scandis and Tundras are awesome utility sleds for sure!
From the late 80's to the turn of the millennium, the majority of my sled time was for work was on either skandics or 250 bravos. Used the heavy skandics to break trail and bring in the supplies, and the bravos for deployment. Almost always doubled up on each machine. I was always amazed when returning to the sleds in the late afternoon to head out, and the temps dropping below -30C, with a couple of pumps on the primer of those bravos and a one (maybe 2) pull on the cord and away we went. Get stuck and a single person could just about deadlift those light sleds out of a hole. And every crossmember on the steering column was held in place with flagging tape, and the cross member itself had usually been replaced with a tree branch. Flat suspension could be a back-breaker on a washboard sled trail. Hated the bearcat "submarines" that worker comp said we needed for 2 person travel...
That said, I am enjoying the new 600 summits we got year before last. And it's been interesting to learn how to ride the yammy nitros that SAR decided to use.

2450k, 08 summit x 800. Going to check the Vin at the dealer and see if it got the updated camshaft and primary. Hasn't had a top or bottom end yet, already got rid of the stock muffler. What else should I be doing before taking er out? Probably going to wait a bit as I don't wanna break anything stupidly and my truck can take me everywhere right now

Nice! With that mileage I'd do a top end without question. Pistons/rings cost nothing compared to throwing a ring through the system...
Otherwise I'd check crank runout, track tension, clean clutches, check belt, drain/replace crank case oil, change (inspect/read) plugs, and call her good to go.
If you have the cash maybe look into the new XM front end which I believe is compatible with that sled - At $845 it'll make a world of difference from what I hear... I'd skip the T-Motion though...

So the new T3 package was supposed to come with a smaller muffler can to save weight (5lbs). Got a letter from BRP prior to delivery saying new can didnt pass EPA standards so back to the old suitcase. Since the sled was sold as being the same weight as a 163 SP, I feel like BRP needs to do something. I dont know if I want an aftermarket can as the MRBP one I had in an XM last season never really meshed. Was getting throttle lag. A few other people said similar and the stock muffler seemed like the only one that really worked. All that being said, am I off base to request some Ski Doo bucks for their lack of engineering follow through? Every BRP brochure and marketing material for the T3 package raved about weight loss and new muffler system.

Dunno. I HATE loud sleds, I leave mufflers alone, although I'd consider the Diamond S one - it seems to be quiet AND a whole lot smaller (smaller.....). The only thing I don't like about the stock mufflers are their size. I don't really care about weight, personally, not only am I huge, I'm piling skis and skiers on.
Now, had I bought a t3....yeah, I'd be irritated that I put a deposit down on X and picked up Y in the fall. I'm not sure what BRP can/should do about it. I'd be happy with a couple of gallons of oil, personally, but....eh, dunno. IMHO, you're not wrong to feel slighted. That's not what you paid for. Not sure how BRP can make it right for you, though.

At least you got a letter. Give it time. Skidoo is really good to their owners. Suitcase as it is the motor runs best with stocker muffler from what i've seen
+another. Shadam's 9k mile monster was a 1000 - totally different than the 800. With that many kms, a top end is not a bad idea, at all, although the 08R motor is better than the earlier offerings.
A top end is WAY cheaper than not doing a top end, if it in fact needed one. Crystal balls would be nice.
