Fall 2008 where is BCA Tracker 2?

Alright so I'm buying my first beacon this year, and found the Tracker 2 to be a good pick so I back ordered it. But where the hell is it?

I check the BCA site and there is no information on it so I emailed them aswell with mec.ca where I back ordered from anyone know?

The Ute told me that they were suppose to ship 10/29? The info on the other thread about a delay, may be more accurate, but that's what a fairly reputable retailer told me?

They exhibited @ a NOLS conference last week and didn't have any info laying out about the 2. I couldn't find the rep, but then again I was in a hurry.

    +1.

    I called BCA this week.

Me: When will you have the Tracker 2 in stores?

Guy who answered the phone on Tue: Hopefully in January.

forget about the tracker 2. something that is belayed for release multiple times is not worth the risk. the pulse is better/will be better.

After hearing exactly WHY it is being delayed while home in Boulder this week I am actually pretty stoked for it because once it is dialed, it should be an amazing beacon. I got asked to not say what the issue was, but I know the BCA guys are working hard on it and once they get it the technology should be superior to any of the other beacons out there.

isn't there less of a risk because it has been delayed multiple times?

Yeah, a product getting released on time means the suits got their way. A delay means the engineers got the time they wanted to fix it. If my ass is on the line I'd rather wait a few months and have the engineers all happy.

The S1 was delayed multiple times and it's the real deal.

www.wildsnow.com has a blog posting about it. And some more food for thought on what's up with beacons these days. also check beaconreview.com

When i tried out the pieps last year, it was pretty slick, also hear the pulse is pretty good.

He forgot to add "practice like your motherfucking nuts depended on your knowledge of that beacon", but same general idea.

My practice beacon crapped out, so I am going to downgrade my tracker to that and pick up a newer generation beacon. BCA's taken good care of me, I'll wait.

obviously i'm wrong. a beacon that no one has ever seen or used (at least the version that is going to be for sale) is clearly the best beacon that will ever be made. i've used the tracker and the pulse and the pulse is the better beacon.

    enlighten me.

BCA Rep got back to me and he said January distribution. And as far as the Pulse goes I want a simple, fast, easy to use beacon that fits my budget; two of those things the Pulse doesn't. My buddy has one he said its the bomb but I've never had a beacon before thus a complicated beacon like the Pulse isn't something I want.

Check the tracker 2 thread in the avy forum on TTips. One person mentioned November and another November-December.

Good timing- just today Wildsnow did a post about the Tracker 2 and Float pack with a quoted release date of early December for the beacon and late December for the airbag pack:

It's going to come out at some point, but from what I've heard chances of getting one before early 2010 are not great.

People have had trial models out there for some time, they are just working out the kinks.

Given the multiple push backs, if you need a new beacon for this season, I would go with something else. It does look improved over the original tracker, but there are other good tranceivers out there... I like the Pieps DSP if you are looking for a three antena option (* the tracker II will have 3 antenas)

When the Tracker 2 finally does release, should we expect a drop in price for the original Tracker? And if so, how much?
