Mounting point for Line EP Pro and Line Bacon

Just a PSA and something for the masses to search out. Found out and figured I'd add to the information pile here.

Line EP Pro: Pollard mounts them smack on the line. It's his pro model and they played around with it alot and found this to be the optimal position.

Line Sir Francis Bacon: Pollard says you can go slightly forward on this one 1-2cm.

    Happy mounting.

Mount the SFB 1-2cm forward? Isn't that center?

Beats me. I don't have any. I guess I should qualify that he said "The SFB, you can mount a bit forward". I took "a bit" to mean at least 1cm, maybe two, which is where I got "1-2cm".

I only asked him specifically about the EP Pros, but he just threw in that tidbit about the Bacon's, so I threw it in.

i mounted my bacons on the line with naxos. i like the way they skied, but they felt a little shot at times. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GOING FORWARD.

Double vote for not moving the mount forward. Unless you plan to ski backwards all day the reccomended line is bang on. If anything -1 for a more traditional feel.

Mine are on the line (2 cm back from true center) and they feel really good. I recommend mounting there.

    hey cmelo

dude, glad you found the proper forum.
the ep pros are super fun, been riding the 2010 model most of the season. search for report in past thread. anyhow........
i mounted 2 cm behind line because i dont give a shit about going mach luny backwards, but i really wanted a bit more ski out front. been working great set back a bit.
i mounted fritschi freerides which have a solid bar underfoot, this seems to have slightly stiffened the ski in the middle for a little easier carving on hard pack. but damn i dont care about hardpack anyhow, these skis are soooo fun in the soft, crud, mank, chopped, pow, corn, slush, pillow, glade, tight trees, power schmears down steep faces.
    you get the point.

unless you have a specific compelling reason for doing otherwise, mount the EPs on the mark...

Why go back from the line to have more ski out front on these? They are a powder ski, and you are not going to dive the tip in powder mounted on the line.

mounted back of line because like i wrote before, i dont give a shit bout ridin mach switch, use more of the ski rippin forward with a bit xtra platform in front of my big toe. pollard wants to have the ski 50/50 thats cool, it's his ski. now my ski is ridin by me, im 6'3 buck70 and ski 100+ each year since 82. daily ski is the prophet 100, i ride this everywhere on any surface that wont kill em. not super stiff or super soft, just right. mounted 4 cm back of center and ride awesome. ep's are sooper soft with a consistent flex of luny, for me, 2cm back was nothing compared to the prophets, so to each his own. 20 days on the ep's, 10 in deep pow on steep terrain, rest on all else. fun ski to play on, kill it in the pow, schmear awesome turns on huge faces, dance in the trees like brittney, and hop on chop so well. wont always ride such a soft tail forever, probably get similiar ski, 150 125 150 range, much tip rocker and a traditional twin tip tail.
in mean time i will rip the ep's around my mtn ruthlessly.

I put sas2 140's on my 09-10 EP's with suggest mount.. absolutely love it. I'm debating switching out the 140's and putting on some duke's, but there will be a bit of hole overlap, so I'd likely have to move it to ~1 cm behind the suggested mount.. think I'd notice any differences on em? I don't do too much constant backwards, but love to spin on em.. would that 1 cm be enough to notice the spin-weight being off from right under foot?

endure, spin away young jedi, there will be no appreciable difference if you mount 1 cm. back. with so much rocker it would be almost impossible to notice such a slight difference.

    Bumping this old thread...
Any recommendations on where to mount this years sir francis bacon? Its a completely new ski from last year.
This is for my wife -5-8, 125lb, solid skier chick on bacon 172s (no nekkid pics) in the canadian rockies with the occasional weekend in interior BC - a resort pow/cut up leftovers/all mountain ski.
Looks like the midsole line is 2cm behind true center. She doesn't ski switch at all, but her style is traditional and relatively aggressive and this is her first pow ski. So i'm wondering if I should go 1-2 cm behind the midsole??
Any advice greatly appreciated - as the more fun she has the more often we can get out.

I mounted mine on the line but I haven't skied them yet and it will be at least a week before we get any new snow. Pollard didn't seem to have any trouble with them in pow mounted there judging by the demo videos. I figure if I don't like it I can always remount them back a bit.

Everyone seems to recommend mounting the SFBs on the line, but has anyone mounted them -1 or -2 behind the line? Any reason not to mount them behind the line if you don't plan on ever skiing switch?

Wasn't asking about the EPs, but more to the point I'm wondering if anyone has actually tried the SFBs mounted behind the line.

I don't know specifically about the SFB. But I do have the 11/12 Influence 105, and I mounted them back 1cm. (I've also owned Prophet 100's, and mounted them at the same spot. I really like it, but I should say that I am using them as an everyday, all conditions (ie. not only pow) ski. By mounting it back, it skis a little more traditionally: less tail to lean back on, which means you must stay frontseat to control them well. Kinda like a race/carving ski, but not to such an extent. I think this is great for everyday conditions. But if I was using them as a pure pow ski, I would leave them on the line, as I like a little more centered feel for pow and don't want to have to lean super far forward (and possibly dive tips) in the pow. But when ripping around the mtn in harder conditions, -1 is perfect.

Again, this is not the SFB. But the same concept applies. Shoot me a pm if you have any more questions.
Skiing, whether you're in Wisconsin or the Alps, is a dumbass hick country sport that takes place in the middle of winter on a mountain at the end of a dirt road.

I like the SFB on the line. I came from a 168 gotama that was mounted on the FR line which has to be around -7 cm, although I haven't measured, to the 184 SFB mounted at -2. The Bacon is way more balanced. I will say though that I'm a recent born again skier and don't have any ingrained habits but the SFB just skis more naturally for me. I have no problems keeping the tips up and I can keep a nice centered stance in all situations.

I'm sure you could mount them back a cm or two but I think it's worth trying out a more center mounted ski. The rocker is what makes it work.

Just got SFBs and called Line to talk about mounting points. They said they tested the SFB at every conceivable mounting point and it works best at the recommended line regardless of skiing style. Not a cm forward or back - right on the line.
