    WWMD? - Job Related

Ok, so it is looking like I will be leaving my job within the next month or so. I've been with my current company going on 3 years, and am going nowhere. So, I've got an offer on the table, and am negotiating salary, vacation, ect.

Anyway, I offered to go with my boss to a conferance on the east coast in August back in the first quarter before I was interviewing for other positions. He has since booked his ticket, hotel and the such for the conferance, and I have not. I keep stalling, delaying and forgetting about it in hopes this will work itself out due to the new job. I checked on a refundable ticket, and they are mucho bucks. Today he became insistant that I get the trip booked, but ethically, I don't want to cost the company a lot of money knowing I most likely will not be going on the trip. I know that as long as I give 14 days notice for the plane ticket, prices will be ok. I also don't want to tip my hand that I might be leaving. If I do that, I could lose my job on the spot as Utah is a "Right to Work State" which basically means no severance package if your fired. I need the income in the meantime, and if the other job doesn't pan out, I need to keep this one.

    Any idea

ps- my boss is a really great guy, who I will maintain contact with after I leave this job, but he is still my boss...

    book the ticket.

if you leave someone else will use it.

plus it adds to the " I wasn't really looking, but this great offer came up" story later.

If he is such a good guy, I bet he knows you are looking.

Have you discussed why you are unhappy w/ him?

If you're going to play the role, then play the role, especially in the light of "right to work" constraints.

Proceed with knowns. Stay focused in your current job. Book the trip.

Then if you take the other job give me your old one.

He has been made aware of all the reasons why I am unhappy (for the last 18 months). I pretty much made my mind up that if I was going to leave, they would be given ample time to make up for it.

Ironicly, a little to late comes to mind as they have ponied up $6000 in raises in the past 4 months for me. However, I am still way way below what I should be making. (salarys surveys are posted for my fairly specialized field).

Me thinks I will book the flight.

You know, I actually thought about that about a month ago. Know much about cosmetic packaging? Wait, you really don't need to. Can you BS your way through a resume and interview?

I have lots of Product Management experience, and my package is quite cosmetic.

Monkey, the job is parts East. Sadly, I will probably be saying good bye to the Wasatch. However, my 5 year plan brings me back to the hills, and the company I have the offer with is already on board to work with me on that. Maybe sooner. I love the mountains, my mind will always be in them, but my career and relationships have taken the backseat to them for quite some time now.

Ohh, went up to Alta yesterday. Short hike to Devil's Castle and there is plenty of snow to slide on... (let me know)

Friz, maybe shoot me a resume and I'll hand it off to a hiring manager. I must warn you however, this company IS NOT a good company to work for. I would caution against it. However, I do understand the need for a job, that is how I ended up here. And the commute is taking you life in your hands for an hour each way from your house.
