I have a line on cheap Dukes and some new 130 mm skins. Do I buy the Dukes and save my P18s, or save for some more skis and Dukes for the new skins?
Congrats, mags! We collected 1030.68! for birdman!

If you mount core center it will ski like this:

When I ski I look for air into powder, if there is no air I look for powder, if there is no powder I look for air, if there is no air or powder I go fast and/or jib.
My skiing style is fast and poppy/playful. I like turning natural features into stuff to play on.

    Current quiver:
180 Rossi Scratch (rock ski/park ski)
    179 Seth (everyday ripper)
179 AK Enemy (AT setup with FR+)
    189 Hellbent (floating, hucking, switch-jibbery)

    Site and Situation:
    Sunshine, Alberta, Canada.
2 cm fresh in 24 hours. 20 cm fresh for the week. Dust on crust with pockets of boot deep if you know where to look. Light was in and out with bands of very light snow fall.

    Review:
Hellbent 189 (core center mount with P12) First time on a rockered ski.
Blown away by its versatility. It took me about 2 runs to figure out how to ski the new boots and skis. On the third run I could rip super-G turns with a beautiful, solid carve. Really stable under foot. I pushed the speed limit and got some tip and tail flutter but I was having too much fun to notice; these things are so stable underfoot that I didn't really notice the tip and tail flutter (my friends had to point it out to me).

Powder was easy. Floated in the smallest depths. You could carve the ski in powder or slarve it and play. This is one of the best switch skiing skis I have encountered. Makes switch a joke. Airs were clean, even thought the ski was a bit heavy, and landings were solid both regular and switch.

Busts crud and I had no sign of tail hangup on steeps or in crud.

I'd use this ski as an all 'round fun ski. I thought it was a powder specific tool, but I was delightfully wrong.

    Full Tilt:
I recall another mag suggesting that these boots 'are not the second coming.'
    Actually they are.
Laterally stiff, set a great edge. Intuition liners are the tits. I'm not heating them, I'm going to let them break in over time with my foots natural heat. Forward flex took about 2 runs to get used to. My usual boots are Lange FR120's which are considerably stiffer. I raced for 2 years in the old Raichle Flexons before switching to Lange. Once I got used to the softer FT flex I skied with my weight much more balanced and neutral. The softer flex made landing big airs much easier on the legs and knees.

    Downfalls:
The weight of the Hellbents. Although for such a big ski that is so stable under foot, they don't really seem that heavy.

Full Tilts have no discernible down sides as they fit like a glove.

    Conclusion:
Go buy these skis and boots right now.

Its not a heavy ski,...its a bomber ski. Plows through chop effortlessly,...GS, super-G, and pivot turns all good. Floats like a butterfly, stings like when I pee. You can't submarine these things. So many airs to landing that would have been over the bars on any other ski. Saved them all. More face shots than Jenna Jameson. Carves and floats the pow. Regular or switch. Super pop-y and playful at every speed. I just kept going for bigger and bigger air because I knew the landings wouldn't be a problem. Confidence inspiring. Quick turning in very tight trees.

I think this is my new favorite ski (it used to be my Seth's). Talk about fun.

I agree with the above post. I can't stress a forward mount on these enough, even if you never ski backward. This is far from a traditional ski, so don't be thinking about a traditional mount. I have skiied them at +10 and at +5. 5 was hell. Way too far back. There is no way the ski is made to be mounted there. +10 was boner city.

I just did +4 on my Obsetheds, I figure it gives me room to go dramatically further forward if I need it. I'm still thinking +6.5 or +7 on the Hellbents. Tape measuring my tiny ass boots puts that just back from center.
Congrats, mags! We collected 1030.68! for birdman!

Hey, I am 5' 11" and 205lbs and am looking at the Helbents in 179 or 189. My everyday ski is a 190 Gotama and I am a pretty strong Skier. I noticed the 179's looked a lot like other 186's so I was wondering if the 189 would be a real beast. I think I am leaning towards the 189 but any comparison would be great. Also when you say plus 5 or plus 7 which ^ mark are you referring to. It looks like there are 3 ^ marks on the side? Thanks for any input.

    0 - traditional
    +3 - k2 recommended
    +7.5 - core center
just got my 189s and about to mount +7 (me strong skier, lots of switch, 6'4" 200lbs) with rossi 140 ti's for my rossi squad boots, lots of deep powder around these parts. comin up from 89 ak enemies at +3.5, anyone with any advice to the contrary speak up now or i'll give an update of the outcome in a week or so. until then i'll just drool at their unmounted glory.

Can you really tell the difference between a plus 5 or plus 7? Wouldn't you just get use to the mount? I got the 189's and am waiting for some Jesters to show up. What would be the down side to a plus 7 mount?

I read all your posts and go with +5 mounting.
    Background:
Expert freerider. Few jumps. No park. 150 pounds.
Skiing in the Eastern infamous woods.
Full Tilt Kontact 310 mm bootsole.
The stick is at center of the boot and +5 on the skis.
    Left side: true center of the K2 skis;
Right side: k2 suggested point at +2.
Wishing it could help somebody too.

Here 2 pictures what it looks like:

    skied today 12-3 first time
    local ALTA
reported 5 of fresh but there was a lot of wind play in effect
    mounted at +7 with a 317 bsl
    PERFECT!!!!!
That mounting point gives you enough stability under food while on groomed/chop
and the pow is just sick.
no wheelie effect and I could not bury the tip if i tried
By far my new favorite ski

Is it safe to say that +5 is a pretty safe mounting point?

I haven't been on rockers like this before, and am usually on a pretty traditional mount...just not sure where to go on the scale. Goats are my regular ski.

I have jesters mounted at +6. It's PERFECT. ^^^^ You won't regret it.
Man, skiing is the easy part.

..okai thanks. I`m like 6"3 and weigh 208. Not too much of a switchwhore.
Pretty aggressive skier. You something in similar?
Should I go even further forward?

So looking at this thread, I am in the same boat as others. Since the ski has been out now for 2 years, does anyone who posted before have any updated opinions from when they first mounted thiers?

Also, does the prefered 179 mount point differ from a 189 MP? It looks like +6 for non-switch neutral skiers? Quickness is preferred since I will be in tighter trees with them.

I mounted my 179's at +4.5 and haven't had any of the wheelie popping issues others have mentioned. I mounted them like that after riding pair my buddy loaned me that were mounted core center. In heavier powder they seemed to want to dive unless I moved my weight back. Better switch riding due to center mounting wasn't worth the loss in float for me since I only ride switch if I'm fucking around on groomers with friends. I'm much happier with them mounted at +4.5. They float well in the heavier pow, and carve great through the groomers on the way back to the lifts. Maybe I ski more weight-centered than others that are having wheelie issues? Either way, the skis are a blast.

BTW, I'm 5',10" and weigh 160 if it matters.
