Question Sold my Burton Fish, what to get now?

    Hi,
So, I just sold my beloved fish to a fellow snowboarder in need before leaving Las Lenas, Argentina a couple of days ago. I was madly in love with that plank, so it was more out of kindness than need.

Anyhow, before I run to the shops to buy a new one it would be great to get a few opinions on good alternatives to check out.

The thing I love about the fish is the lightning-fast turns, and that it's a superfun board in the groomers as well as (obviously) in the pow - as well as it's not icy though.

I've noticed that revers-camber boards seem to be gaining popularity for the coming season. Anyone tried any of those compared to the fish?

So, do you guys have any opinions?

    Thanks,

    -Trond

i love my fish - have been wanting to check out the malolo as it might have some similar powder goodness but more of a tail for catching AIR. the reverse camber stuff seems cool but if you want to blast turns in powder going forward i don't think it's the way to go. the fish is so amazing because of the massive nose and tiny tail. a twintip fish would be pretty sucky IMO.

Pow board yeah? What about the banana hammock?

And if you´re in Oslo (assuming by your name you´re norwegian), they have (had) one at Seasport that they would probably let go for cheapo...

Fish forces you to ride in the backseat beacuse the tip rides so high and the stance is set back so far. Personally, I hate that style of (old school) riding with your front leg all boned out. No specific suggestions but I like to use a bit narrower waiste with added length for powder performance.

I loved my Hammock and am completely sold on the reverse/reverse for powder. I liked the fish and all those pintail styles, but I prefer the hammock. IT IS NOT a one board quiver though. It is teh sux on groomers.

Lib-tech Mullet. Magnetraction takes care of the ice, if any. Ive only rode last years model so cant tell for the bananatech.

The new Neversummer rocker boards with the recamber are pretty sick boards. The SL, EVO, and Legacy are have this tech this year. If you want to throw a little freestyle into your pow riding, rocker boards are pretty sweet for that.
The K2 Gyrator is another sweet powder slaying rocker board. You ride it very centered and it will buck you if you get off center. Not much of a problem for accomplished riders.
For Pintails, I love the Neversummer Summit. One of the best powder boards I have demo'd. So much so I had NS make a split version for me. The Prior Kybher is fun too.

    Talking

    You are welcome.

And I ride Solly boards. Absolutely love em.
Heard great things on the Hammock in pow, getting to the lift on grooms sucks though.

I rode the malalo for the second half of last season and really liked it. I cant relly say it has a tal for catching air though. It has a short tail, which I liked, but would definitely be old school (i guess). Obviously it was great in the pow, but it was actually really fun on the cruisers as well, really surfy feel, which i loved.

^As above - look at the NS Summit. I like mine, I dont believe the taper is as much as the Fish.

I got a Malalo at the end of last season and rode it a true inch back from center (measured to the center of each insert from the tip and tail) board was pretty veristale for its shape carves fine regardless of condition rides switch. I thinking of selling it to get a Lib Dark Series with banna tech and magna traction. Regular camber between feet rockered tip and tail. My friend rode one last year everyday in all conditions park pow ect and loved it. The only reason I am thinking of selling is I have size 8.5 boots and the malalo is 25.4 (162) or something in the waist and I like narrower boards for my small feet. 24.8-25.2 Hope that welps if you only get 1 board go recurve with regular side cut.

Have someone tried these? Seems like an interesting concept...a bit like Fish but I guess you can/should/would ride it a bit more centered? (at least that is what they claim the board is all about)

I can get a good deal on this...haven't actually rode a board much for ages but I just checked out and scanned some old pics (see here) and got pretty stoked about boarding again... If I had more days on snow, I'd like to go like 50-50 (or 60-40) on both disciplines..hard to beat a board on super deep day!

I can't say I'm a super badass snowboarder or anything but most of the people I know that are are swearing by the Lib skate banana, and the K2 gyrator, and whatever the other K2 board w/ rocker is.

Of course at Baker we're never blasting turns through powder, and rocker really sucks for skis in powder as well. YMMV.

i have a fish. fun board but the shortness makes it lacking at speed. it's perfect for cat-boarding...always smooth, always (you hope) deep.

want to try a banana board. too many people swearing by them. Fish will probably be for sale.

I'm picking up an Illuminati Howard 169 this year as my pow board. That said it will be a pow board only. Once it gets chopped up I have a T6 that kills is on anything else.

Also check out Venture Snowboards (Ephoria, Storm etc), NS Summit, and Burton Fish again and Malalo. They were my top choices when looking for a new pow board.

Banana hammock also looks like tons of fun but I'm pretty set on tapered boards with set back stances YMMV.

The Gyrator is pretty much awesome. If you´re in Norway these days, might want to get in touch with the K2/Ride distributor(Truls) for info on how to get one in the country. If he has one or two in stock, or a demo board, he´ll likely get you a deal.

i see quite a few around switz and all the guys i've talked to are stoked on them. basically all the benefits of a traditional swallowtail design but handles better, especially (obviously) switch. supposedly a good "do-everything" board. i haven't had a chance to try one since i can't really board anymore due to ankle injury. maybe soon tho.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Can't be a bad board at all...I might consider buying one if I get a really good deal!

Good luck with the ankle. My friend has a similar case (he's pretty good at skiing originally though, so the change back to two planks wasn't that big deal for him)

If you're a snowboarder and are looking for the supreme powder tool that can Haul ass over any terrain like a rally car and can also rail on groomers, smash the bumps and still can maneuver surprisingly well in the trees check out the TANKER.

    http://www.rad-air.com/09/en/index.php

I bought the 200 four years ago (Which if your a strong rider of good size and weight should be the only size you consider) and put close to three hundred days on it, it is my pride and joy, and even though the thing is beat to shit now (but still performing well considering I have two cracked side walls a cracked edge and the core is completely shattered and spider-webbing a beautiful array of cracks onto the top sheet), it has performed like a champ in every type of snow condition on all terrain. With the one exception of park riding; however that's not exactly my thing and swinging 200cm of board around takes focus.

Once you get use to having so much board underneath you, you can put an amazing amount of power into your riding.

Sorry to resurrect an old ass thread but I was searching for info on lib-techs magna traction and it lead me here.

If anyone lives in the front range of CO and wants to try riding the thing shot me a PM.
Rad-air doesn’t exactly have demo tours on this side of the Atlantic, but I can guaranty it will change the way you look at snowboarding.

    Cheers
