Borrowed a friend's Gold Pass and hit up the Heave today. Better than I expected, carvable and for the most part soft, only ice was in the afternoon after all the new snow got shralped away. Felt good to get out on the skis again and wake up the legs. May have to hit up the $40 deal later this week but sounds like this will be the end of the MTB season so may just go ride. Cold temps on the way means at the least it'll be round the clock snow-making. With some luck maybe Ma Nature will stop being so stubborn and let loose the moisture.

that sure is a piss poor attitude. in these tough economic times, who knows when you will get another chance to blow off work?

Bump for updated NWS forecasts. And the PG&E email forecast that I get that says...

Snow on and off through the end of next week, and likely into the following. The NWS is now saying snow down to 500 feet in the Sacto foothills at times from Sunday to Tuesday, and a fat AK LP system sitting off the CA coast. And ALL the models say this, so fuck your anti-jinx.

I'm heading up, but pretty sure I will hit the heave. I have the WM mid week tix to use up, and I like the idea of lift served prior to doing my Avy 1 class. Just nice easy relaxing lift serve.

NOAA: COLD AIR WILL REMAIN IN PLACE INTO MUCH OF NEXT WEEK WITH THE MAIN STORM TRACK FROM THE NORTH. FORECASTS ARE INDICATING THAT A SLOW MOVING STORM OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST COULD AFFECT THE SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA WITH PERIODS OF SNOW FROM SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS.

Anybody up for kite skiing on Saturday?

Saturday: Snow showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 21. Strong and damaging winds, with a west wind 80 to 85 mph decreasing to between 45 and 50 mph. Winds could gust as high as 125 mph.

    That's a lot of wind.

Sacramento office hinting at sub-tropical jet undercutting that ridge late next week. Pineapple upside-down cake anyone?

models agree on at least a pretty good low pressure system moving through and spinning off some snow into tahoe... but the best part is that some models have the system parking off the northern california coastline and spinning several waves into the sierras. good stuff.

I saw all the weather nerds on t-tips helping out in this department. I think I understand upside down pineapple cake on a weather-metaphor level......

Just curious, which email list are you on?

Forecast is up some to 3" precip for the 10 day with a snow line wavering between 1500-2500'. Will this be dust on dirt?

normally this is where we point out that at least the heavy wet glunk falling as rain at Lake level is making a great base.
i foresee many askidents and broked skis in the days ahead. not to mention stability issues in areas where this already a base.

I smell a TR that includes lots of base gashes, sad faces and dirt carving. With a possible side section of sushi.
