me thinks things don't get good until late next week/weekend, when the real mo-fo's come through (after the storm door is pried open with these first cold systems).

snow dance commenced and car washed.

I get up there on Monday, but I'm taking Tuesday to do family stuff, and not hitting the hill (wherever that may be) until Wednesday.

Definitely going to be hitting stuff unless we really get a LOT. Hopefully the new Praxis float me above that stuff, even with 5% blower. Still going to try to be careful though, especially after I hit a rock with my knee the week before Christmas on a traverse at Sugarbowl last year (thank God for BD kneepads). Dweeb Report saying something about a SW flow going into Christmas.

    Praying.

    Mammoth.

If I was driving from SF and didn't have any particular preference for North or South, I'd likely pick Heavenly. If the winds are still raging, maybe Northstar.

So, with the Fri overnight winds, will any of it stick to the ground, I'm wondering?
Hopefully, some will stick to, and around Heavenly's 2 groomers...
the forecast for mammoth is calling for snow in the 3% moisture range. that is drier than, say, 5% ootah snow.

If you're staying at NLT, I might just stick with Flatstar. The drive down 28 shouldn't be *that* crazy. 89 might actually stay open, hard to say. But I still don't know if it would be worth it. fluffballs had beta on NS's WROD earlier in this thread. And NS doesn't get shut down by wind (that I've ever heard of), while Heavenly does with decent regularity, depending on the chair and the winds by Sunday of course.

I was about to say that Northstar should be a bit cheaper too, but HOLY SHIT. $79? They've got to be joking. That's the same price as Squaw. And $68 listed for Heavenly ATM, although that'll increase. Still don't think it's more than $79 though.

Any opinions on whether ASI's Avy 1 course is worth the $400 bill vs. $40 at LTCC?

$56 Flatstar vouchers at various retailers (PDF linky) or with a Snowbomb online coupon.

Yeah in NLT. May as well go to Flatstar. It is close and what is one WROD compared to another, anyway.....

Unfortunatly, I signed up for ASI before I knew LTCC offered a class. Past time of refund..... Taking it next weekend if you were thinking. All this snow predicted this week should at least make next weekend's course a little more productive.

    UCL,

I don't think you'll be disappointed. Bela is a legend. I'd love to take a course with ASI. And... now that I look at their site, and Avy I refresher might be about my speed (and budget).

If the moisture coming in next week is warmer than that predicted for the next few days, I'd say you might have a LOT of interesting stuff to work with. Post up in here with how it goes.

AKBruin, that's a big price difference. Tough call. I think schralphmacchio (among others around here) took that class. Maybe PM him.

Take the LTCC one. I took the ASI Level 1 at Kirkwood a few years ago, and then again at LTCC last year with one of the same instructors. Professionals teaching at both places, same material. I also took Level 2 at LTCC. It's a great price. The Wilderness Education department rules.

Just drove over Echo Pass on 50. Snowing lightly. Down at the lake, the wind is H O W L I N G but my Frosted Mini-Wheats still taste pretty damn good. I don't know what the hell to do tomorrow...leaning towards a drive to Carson Pass to skin and get some exercise....I'd hit Heavenly, but I have a feeling the winds are going to mess with the Gondola. Did I mention I have Frosted Mini-wheats?

Also, LTCC is all sold out and has been for some time.

I drove out Red Lake road today and there is some decent coverage out past Forestdale. With a little wind and some luck it could be decent??

Sunny and warm on the western slope. Web cams show a better story in the mountains, but damn!
