Kill your Ipod before it gets you killed!

It amazes me the number of people who ride insulated from the sound of life going around them. Music may help one climb faster, but I for one, want to hear that lion before he sinks his teeth into the back of my neck! A couple seconds of early warning might allow me to whip out the old Zeffal pump and defend myself!

    ^^^

It is just flat-out dangerous...and not only for the rider. Unnecessary danger, IMO.

Why do I have to kill it? Can't I just not wear it?

I think they're dangerous on the road, but I like it on the mountain bike. With the crappy Ipod ear buds and the volume low, you can hear what's going on around you. It's a great distraction on longer climbs, and I just put it away when it's time to descend.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Thats how I prefer to ride, espescially on long country roads. I can still hear cars coming but i dont go insane with all the little voices bouncing around my skull.

I can see it now, you hear noise. Turn to see. Get face/eyes mauled. then die. IMO a quick unexpected neck chomp is better.

    Attack...

To your point though, I've almost hit multiple deer/elk while decending when i forgot to turn tunes off after the climb.

But you’re only hearing half the song, man.

No need to kill it (IMO), one earbud in, one out (on the road) seems pretty safe.

Earbuds fall out for me, I have to use the ones that go around the back of your neck.

i only listen to music when I know where I am, never on trails that I haven't been on before. dangerous? yes, but I like it like that
