As you can see from the direction the thread has taken, the answer is no.

The new casino here in Bangor opens July 1st, if you are feeling motivated for a little drive and into that kind of thing. Otherwise, youporn.

I've never been to Maine, but I do enjoy beer from th Sea Dog Brewery. If I was going to be in Augusta I would go to the location in Topshap and drink some beer. Google says it is less than 40 minutes away.

The Rangely and Moosehead lakes areas to the north are insanely beautiful as is the coast to the south, also Bates College is right across the river from Augusta in Lewiston, there's some cool pubs and whatnot. You can find stuff to do.

Yeah my bad, it's been a while.

Comments about the lakes and coast still stand, though.

Slate's Restaurant in Hallowell(next town south of Augusta) has the best food around and there's also a couple bars in Hallowell that have decks overlooking the Kennebec River. I know Slate's had a fire a while back, so I'm not sure it's opened back up yet. The Senator Inn on Western Avenue also has good eats. Whippers on the east side of the town by the rotary(yeah, it's a roundabout) has great italian sandwiches and dagwoods. Not much in the way of nightlife in Augusta. We always went to Waterville for nightlife. Stop by my folks' natural food store (Harvest Time) just off Western Ave. and stock up on some soy milk and Occilococcinum.

This has got to be the lamest 'things to do recommendation thread' in TGR history. Visit Bates? Champions? (I could never understand going to a place that was a gym during the day and a bar at night.)

It's all about going to Jokas' and buying a case of Schaefer and drinking it in a parking lot.

Would this make your father my former math teacher?

And there's not a whole ton to do in Augusta. Bring a book. If you fish, there's plenty of good lakes and ponds in the area for bass - north and great pond should still have pike if you're into that.

having grown up in central Maine, all I can remember doing is either buying "pounda's"(16oz buds) and drinking by the river or in a field, or going to Waterville, I don't remember Augusta having anything...

I think it wil all be about road trips, if you rent a car and have the time... There is tons of natural stuff to get out and see, but the area isn't known for it's nightlife. Oh, Railroad Square Cinema in Waterville was always a cool place with independent films, and they've upgraded the place since I was a kid. I think there is now a decent mexican place next to the theatre. That would be worth the 40 min drive there at night. There is a couple decent bars right on the main street in watervill, but I forget what they are called. When I was there last fall they were serving decent brews. One is "My Brother's Bar". Been there for a while. UM Augusta use to have a really good Jazz program so maybe the Students or Profs are putting on a preformance?

Now, if you wanted to know what to do in Skowhegan... Well then, i'd have ton's of ideas.

How far are you from Bush's place in Kennebunkport? Flaming bag of poo? Hilarity will ensue.

What's the name of the titty bar in Waterville? Not that you should go there under any circumstances (unless your circumstances happen to include being 19 and unable to get into Champions).

Very funny, all. I'm in Augusta, Maine right now -- and am basically every weekday for work. Unfortunately, I'm heading out tomorrow for a while, so I can't show you the sights.

It's a small town, surrounded by even smaller towns. There is some decent warmwater fishing right in town, with several excellent trout streams within an hour's drive. You can actually catch stripers right downtown, although with the rain we've had in the past week I haven't heard much good about the river. There's decent XC mountainbiking north and east of downtown.

If you're looking for cultural activities to do after work, pickings are rather slim. Head down to Hallowell (you can walk the riverside path, about 2 miles) for Slate's (more upscale, had a fire but is back in more limited capacity) and the Liberal Cup (brewery, good environment), and more of a functioning downtown village. If you want to roam an hour or so out of Augusta, there are some cool coastal towns -- Bath (where I live), Rockland, Camden. Popham or Reid beaches south of Bath just over an hour away, are worth the trip if you like beaches, and are open until sunset.

What are you looking to do? Food? Beer? Outdoor recreation?

Joe's Bar(I think thats the name)? Next to Jokas? That place was frightening.

A trip to the area isnt complete without visiting either AHOP(August House of Pancake) or AHOP(wAterville House of Pancake) not owned by the same people. And please don't confuse AHOP in Waterville with WHOP(Waterville House of Pizza, home of the original buf chik calzone). Or the Augusta House of Pizza with the Augusta House of Pancake. Come to think of it, I think every town in Maine, irregardless of whether the town starts with an A or not, has an AHOP.

I'm absolutely amazed that people are actually suggesting that Waterville is some sort of nightlife hot spot. If you like jail bait there are girls and boys sports camps on the Colby campus during the summer.

I don't think anyone said waterville was a "hotspot" for nightlife. But it's got a couple bars you can get decent beer at... And Railroadsquare is pretty cool for central Maine, and I'm gonna stick by that one.
