"they call him Flipper, Flipper Flipper, faster than lightening"
That picture has been posted dozens of times, and apparently it's a dolphin.

And apparently, through the magic of telephoto lenses, it's not as close as it appears.

its a dolphin ! ah, this sucks sharks are WAY cooler. (when i'm not in the water)
i had a close seal encounter in chile. but then again seals don't eat human sharks that eat seal do.

Dorsal's too sharp to be a dolpin (at least not a bottlenose, spotted or common) , and the nose / melon is too wide to be a dolphin. Not to mention the thing has got to be 12'-15'. A 12' dolphin is a GIANT, and you just don't see many that size.
The fluke also looks vertical. That'd be a shark, not a dolphin.
I guess it could be that because of the diffraction of the water, it COULD be a dolphin, but I'm guessing it's a 'shopped pic of a shark.

not a sperm whale?
Regardless or whether it's a shark or a dolphin, it's NOT what you want to see when heading into a break.
Of all the muthafuckas on earth, you the muthafuckest.
