Time to start looking. Accomodation in W/B for next winter

The wife and I are planning on spending next winter at W/B so i want to get accomodations lined up as early as possible. We are mature, well behaved and fully house trained .

Would like something within walking distance of the lifts, 2 bedroom or similiar, laundry, parking and I need high speed internet as I will actually need to do some work. Looking at going out Oct 1 until end of March or April 2009

Recommendations are what areas to look in for those requirements?

Anyone have some leads PM me.

    Thanks

sorry for late response - I'd advise trying to look to start renting in Sept - Oct - market here is now super-tight for renters. Walk to lifts - the best areas are White Gold, Whistler Cay Heights.

Thanks Lee, I am hoping to find something a little earlier if I can just so we know we have a place. But if that is how it works, that is what we will do.

Definately get on it before october. I started looking in oct this season and almost didn't get a place. I ended up having to live in pemberton which isn't all bad but the drive everyday sure did rack up my fuel bill.

Keep an eye on the pique and maybe even put a wanted ad in it. Good luck!

I think Lee means look now, but try and get a place starting in September. I assume to beat the winter rush. (Correct if I'm wrong, Lee.)

So I guess I should buy the 10-day Edge Card this coming winter?

the Eldos are coming to town! good move looking early, this place has blown up even over the last two seasons with Olympic fever. I think you might be wise to nail something down as early as August and pay the extra month or so. Creekside is a good spot too. Gondola Heights has some decent 2 bds with lofts for not so much. Kind of a ski bum slum, but its walking distance to the gondola and a short bus ride to the village.

I'll keep my eye out for you guys and let you know if I see anything.

Thanks Toby, I am thinking that with the Peak to Peak Gondi that Creek Side will be a better bet than previous years.

E, yep better buy that multi day card, of course given my current record, it won't snow at all next year.

Oh, and another Q, does Whistler do the pass discount thing by buying early?

Well see if I can keep up with the 'youngsters' next year

EE- you get a discount by buying early - I think its before October or some date like that.

Creekside is nice but There's no 2 bedrooms in gondola village aka legoland and i would get claustrophobic working out of those POS units.

Thanks Lee, 2 bedrooms is important as I figure there might be a few guests coming by occasionaly.

my experience- looked at renting market all summer-nothing, worried if we would find a place-friend finds big place and asks g/f and I if we want the room. As we had no luck finding something ourselves we took it and payed rent from Sept on. My G/F moved in at end of oct. I showed up mid Dec.

not much out there especially at reasonable prices. Good luck- get on it early!

If you want a 1 bedroom studio or loft all to yourself be prepared to pay 1200-1500$ a month. If you want a 1 bedroom in a 4 bedroom shared house you're looking at ~600$ before utilities, and it only goes up from there if you want a NICE place, or somewhere close to the village..

Yep, was prepared for that, this has been in the planning stages for almost a year. The finances are lined up, just need the place.

uh... I'm renovating a 2 bd plus loft in Gondola village right now. I certainly wouldn't want to own one of them, but its 10 times better than 95% of the aussie infested shit holes that litter the Creek. It would be fine for a season.

He's right, and it's soon to have nice new paint and a spiffy new floor...

whistler cay is a sweet little area and within walking distance. although to be honest with you you can get a cheaper place in alpine meadows and the bus ride isn't too bad if you don't drive.
i've got to say personally i love the creek, and normally ski out of there when i'm in WB...

That was quick, found a place on Gondola Way around Gondola Heights. Thanks Toby for going and taking a look at it for us. I owe you a beer or two for that. Will probably be up this summer some time just to poke around as I need to go out to Vancouver at some point.

    See you all next Winter

Awesome, glad it worked out Rob! That place is a score compared to some of the dumps in worse locations for similar money. Give me a ring when you're in town.
