    SLC - self storage

I've come to realize that the worst part of flying is luggage claim.
I travel to SLC two or three times a year and was thinking about putting my gear in a self storage place. It would be great to get off the plane and avoid the luggage carousel.

I've been think about doing this for awhile, but the new luggage rules and fees make me want to do it even more.

Delta is going to start charging $25 for the second piece of luggage. It's going to cost my and my wife $50 for each round trip if we pack both our skis in a double bag or $100 if they are in two bags. It works out to $150 to $300 a year in luggage fees.

I've never used a self storage locker. Are my skis going to rust? Is my luggage going to mildew? Do I need to worry about security? Do I need a climate controlled one?
Can anyone recommend a place in Midvale/Murray area?

It'd prolly be a fuck of a lot cheaper to ship the stuff UPS or FedEx ground.

    But follow your star.

Dude a storage unit's gonna run you fifty a month I bet and they get broken into all the time.

Just a thought- some Mag might let you store skis in their garage or basement for less than that.

    Not me though, no room.

Also, a season long locker @ the Bird is around $300. I know you can fit skis in there but for all your gear you'd need two, at least.
There's nothing better than sliding down snow, flying through the air

I think I've seen ads for $30 a month for a small storage locker.

I'm tired of standing around the luggage carousel waiting for my gear. Skis can take a very long time at Newark airport. I'm using the luggage fees as an excuse to justify getting the locker.

    The theft thing concerns me.

Great idea. I'll check out the snowbird locker.

That comes in around $40/day per pair. My wife still does it, since the kids then get free rentals, but it's cheaper by far to bring your own skis, even with the airline surcharge.

If you're only skiing at the 'Bird just rent a gear locker there. I don't want the opportunity to go elsewhere to come up and not have access to my skis, but I guess Demos would be an option then.

United is going to start charging $100 for the second piece of luggage. Renting Demos makes total sense if it's going to cost you $200 to bring a pair of skis with you.

I was hoping to avoid the entire luggage carousel experience. I would bring my boots and ski pants on the plane as carry-on luggage. I would like to check nothing.
