    ACL Recon on Apr 15th....How

long until I am riding a bike outside??

I had 1st PT appointment 24hrs after surgery and have full extension and am now at 120 degrees....3 PT appointments in the 3 days immediately following.

Hammy feels a bit weak, but my quad is in fine shape. Can do up to 100 unweighted squats right now. Can ride stationary for 15 mins no problem with zero resistance. Swelling appears to be the only thing holding me back in terms of full ROM.

It definitely gets tired as the day goes on and I am less able to walk w/o assistance (crutch, wall, etc).

It's effing perfect here on the front range and I'm anxious to out!

I think a week past surgery with no complications and you're good, especially if you can ride the stationary. I would bike only on smooth surfaces and get rid of clipless pedals though.

why dont you ask your PT? Sounds like you are able to now. Can you ride a stationary bike for longer than 15 minutes? If not, then I probably wouldnt bother getting outside. in any event, I would take it easy at first and increase in small increments. but, I am sure your PT could give you a schedule that would work for you--thats what they do! Good luck.

    PT

PT says 2 months before I can ride out on the street b/c of risk of fall and 6-8 weeks before I can swim b/c of it being an 'open joint' exercise. Doctor affirms. Was hoping I'd really only have to work on the run to be in good tri shape for a few late season tris. Looks like I'll be struggling with all 3 disciplines, although the bike should be OK, as I'll at least be riding a trainer for 1+hrs/day.

    Wow!
Maybe they know something that you don't know.~
I let guys ride the bike outside inside of the first month.
How how often does an adult cyclist fall off their bike? The last time I fell I was in the second grade.
Otherwise, perhaps they want you to purchase a scooter chair.

LOL. I've always wanted to be Costanza....I'm getting the hairline for it. All I need to do now is gain 50 lbs, shrink 6" and get glasses. I'd LOVE a rascal .

On this one, I might just disobey Drs orders and dominate the Cherry Creek Bike Path this month, at least.

What are your thoughts on swimming with a pull buoy (not kicking)?
