"Hendrix: Voodoo Chile or Little Wing. Game over." Amen, brother. Little Wing intro, whether Hendrix or Stevie Ray's version, is just perfect. Several of the Face's classics with Ronnie Wood's solo riff intros inspire instant air guitar. No coincidence that one of the all-time classic riffs -- Start Me Up -- is Ronnie Wood. On the less obvious side, Rocket From the Crypt's "do it again" with its badly distorted guitar and wacky saxophone is pretty weird and infectious. And finally, Lou Reed's live intro to Sweet Jane from the early 70s is one I never get tired of. It goes on for about 4 minutes, so I don't know if that's really an intro.
You have to let other people be right. It consoles them for not being anything else. -- Andre Gide
How about "Eighties" by Killing Joke? It's so good Nirvana decided to steal it for "Come As You Are."
The Stones - Satisfaction
All the other good ones have been mentioned, throw in another few good ones...
Metallica-"For Whom the Bells Toll"
Pink Floyd- Time
Pink Floyd- Money
RATM - Calm like a bomb
Boston - Taking my time <~~~two minute long intro
Springsteen - Glory days
Bush - Machinehead
Charlie Daniels - Devil went down to Georgia

MC5 - "Kick Out The Jams"
a couple more...
Barry White's "Love Theme"...A CLASSIC!!!!
not to mention LZ's "Rock and Roll"...
Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
And that opening drum hit of Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone
Slayer - Raining Blood
if you're gonna mention metallica you need to mention blackened and battery. metallica are the kings of dramatic intro's, fight fire with frire, justice, damage inc.. and for slayer angel of death trumps raining blood for the scream alone. anytime someone asked me to make them mix tape/cd of any kind i would always open with that song no matter whatbut there are a million great metal intro's, its part of the genre. for one of the best drum intro's ever (and not metal in any way):
The Telegraph says...

"Active management in bear markets tends to outperform. Unfortunately, investors are not as elated with relative returns when they are negative. But it does support the argument that active management adds value." -- independent fund analyst Peter Loach
Deep Purple? That's just so wrong.
Ah come on man. You post a RATM intro and pick something from Battle of LA? Thats just wrong. Bulls on parade, Bombtrack or Killing in the name was just three obvoius picks. Battle of LA, jesus, kids of today. On topic, to pick ONE intro, no, I cant, dont even think I could compile a top ten without going mad.
"The non progression of skiing has always been funny to me" - Mike Ranquet
LIT: My Own Worst Enemy
THE VERVE: Bittersweet Symphony (crappy song but good intro)
"Life is hard...it's harder if you're stupid..."
vocal test- integrity
rise and fall- leeway
One that springs to mind: Day Tripper:
But this version of Voodoo Child is pretty awesome:
As for the Jam, this one always touched me:
