I have an Lee Enield for sentimental reasons. 150 at a gun show and it can drop an elephant, but not many around here.
I like my Mosins better then the Mauser, cheaper ammo and I think they are a bit funner to shoot. Also one of mine, in very good shape, costed less then $100 from a gun shop.

I have been debating whether to shoot or not. I don't know why I am scared of this thing, maybe because it almost killed my father-in-law in 1968.
My friend has a Soviet Mosin with almost the same story, brought home as a war trophy and used as a saddle gun in the Bitteroot for thirty years until the gentleman sold it to my friend.
If it hasn't been fired in a long long time it might be worth getting it check out, i.e. head space. My Japanese type 99 is unfireable due to this.

when I go to the range or somewhere to shoot, i feel the exact opposite of getting a rush or blowing off steam. for me its a really relaxing calm time where I can focus on my surroundings, ie pay attention to temperature, winds, pressure, etc. Imagine going to a nice spring meadow for a picnic where you just want to relax, have a beer, and enjoy the day. Thats kinda how I feel i guess.

target shooting in and of itself isnt a fast paced lets go fire off 1000 rounds of ammo. its a slow, methodical, and calculated sport in the sense that its not only about what load you're firing, trajectories, and what gun you have, but also in how you prepare yourself to shoot.

What im talking about here is to have some sort of physiological control over yourself to slow your heart rate, control your breathing, and find when is the most accurate time to pull the trigger to get repeatable and accurate results. You start to notice your heart beat and how much that moves the gun around and figure out overtime when is the best point for you to fire.
Similarly, you notice at what point in your controlled exhale you feel the most stable.

Its really very cool when you try to understand all the factors involved and then try to make the best of that. Ive been meaning to take my rifle out forever. If you want, you're invited when I do
Definitely sounds like you are into shooting. Have you ever watched the trace of a bullet fly down range? That is really cool to watch. Looks just like in the movie The Matrix.

For you AR guys you might want to think about switching over to a gas piston. Have heard good things about it and will get first hand experience this summer when I am able to try it. You can buy a conversion kit in the link that you can assemble yourself.

I thought the Ares system was doa. They seem to be more of a joke on arfcom than anything. There are conversions/uppers out there though!

I have a draft of suit papers on my home computer for Ares/Geoff Herring over the Shrike debacle. Just haven't pulled the trigger. They moved from Virginia to Florida, guess the islands are next (better machinists offshore you know).

What part of Kansas? Used to travel out there to find birds. Have family on the Kansas/Nebraska line in the little town of Chester.

new dog popper, 223 Rem 700 with a Swarovski 6-18x50

Has some trigger work and some other tweaks, it shoots wicked well.

Headed to Texas with it next week for a little dog shooting, taking that and a 240 Weatherby, a Ruger 30 (both for the hogs) and my coolie Sako 17.

So anyone bought anything off of www.gunbroker.com?

Is it safe? Safer than ebay?

I found a gun I wanted on Gunbroker, registered, and by the time I got back on the site the gun had sold. I looked at the seller's name, called him, and told him what I wanted and asked if he had anymore. He was a dealer in New York state. He had what I wanted, I paid him over the phone, and he sent the gun to my local dealer (in CO.) I think I had it in hand within a week. So, not exactly a GunBroker.com transaction, but I did find a good dealer through that site.

    Thanks

    Yup AZ.
Makes for lots of travel to ski.

There are lots of choices for 9mm. I would pm coreshot-tourettes. He seems pretty knowledgable on the handguns. I just plink so am definitely no expert.

Damnit! This thread makes me want guns.
Acquiring a gun in Norway legally is a very thorough process, though.

That doesn´t mean I don´t agree with the grounds for thoroughness. Here you go:

Shotgun: You have to be 18+ and a registered hunter to get a permit for owning one. In certain cases, you can have one from the age of 16, but I´m not entirely sure on the bureacracy there. Think you have to hit 25/50 skeets, too. Again, not sure.

Hunting rifle: Same as above, but you need to do a shooting test once each year. You´re not allowed to go grouse hunting with these, I think. Why one would want to do this, I´m uncertain of.

Assault rifle: National guard or other military personnel. No one is allowed to actually own an assault rifle in Norway, though. State property.

Pistols/revolvers: You need to have been a registered, active member of a pistol shooting club for at least six months before being able to apply for ownership of a pistol/revolver. You´re not allowed to hunt with these, but you´ll be encouraged to carry a high caliber pistol/revolver for polar bear defence when going on scooter safaris on Svalbard.

    Airsoft/BB-guns: Just turn 18.

When an individual owns five or more firearms, he or she will have to get a certified gun cabinet. The police will go through your records whenever you´re trying to get an owner´s permit, and if you´ve had any encounters with the world of psychiatry.

I like these rules, as we have very few gun related deaths in this country.

Any Norwegian mags with more gun related legal knowledge than I possess, please correct me where/if wrong.

On my own interest of guns - they just intrigue me, and I would love to get a hunter´s course for grouse hunting and the eventual purchase of a shotgun. I´ve shot an old Czech over/under 12ga, and it was pretty fun - tin cans suffered.

In the future, I may also get into pistol shooting, but I have some issues with the eyes, and it may prove to be difficult. However, since I was 10 or 12 playing Rainbow Six on the old 166mhz win95 setup, I´ve wanted to at least test shoot an HK USP .45 or mark23.

Any of you ever tried either?

Yep. It´s not too hard getting illegal/unregistered/stolen weapons, but I´m gonna choose to not go that route.
