Paging PX Brake Wizards---Drop some Knowledge

Two separate issues here, both involving the same binding. The PX-15 Jib Wide, which is part of the PX Racing series.

I ordered these bindings direct from Dynastar with a wide brake. One pair is mounted on 187 XXLs and the other on 195 Praxis. Both awesome setups except for one big problem, I have no functional brakes.

The wide brakes they sent me were for the PX bindings and not the PX racing which is what the PX 15 apparently is. They do not fit as they are missing a crucial groove on the bottom that is necessary to fit PX racing bindings.

Dynastar says there are none left and basically told me I was SOL until next year when they are making more. I brought them up to DPH at Alta but even with some dremeling they were unable to get the PX wide brakes to work on the PX 15 binding.

The Praxis absolutely need the wide brakes for there to be a chance of being able to bend them around. The XXLs should be fine, but the shop was unable to bend the brakes as I guess they are different material than the regular PX brakes.

What I'm looking for is a brake guru here in SLC that likes beer and could offer to lend a hand. Or, if anyone on here has a pair of the PX Racing wide brakes for sale or trade, I'd be down.

I can post pictures of the grooves on the bottom when I get home tonight if need be.

    Please help my runaway skis.

Since Dynastar is based in Park City, with a service ctr in Ogden you should tell them since they sent you the wrong brakes when you ordered the set up they should bend them for you. That way if they brake them they can get you a new set up.

I cannot help you with bending, I was in the same spot until I lucked out and was able to trade a buddy for a set of 120 mm px-race brakes, I had thought about taking a die grinder and cutting the brake as shown below, removing a section of metal and removing the small tabs, then grinding flat the two small black tabs.

I cannot be sure that it would work, but it seems that would provide enough room for the brake to slide onto the notch the groove was designed for.

Edit: This would most likely however significantly reduce the strength of the brake housing and it might crack/break in a fall.

Unfortunately Dynastar has told me there wasn't much they could do for me. If I wanted to pay to ship the wrong brake back to them, they would credit me back for it, but that's about it.

Mike up at Mother Lode ski shop at Alta dremelled the shit out of a PX wide brake last night but was unable to get them to fit on the PX-15 binders. I didn't quite follow all the details of what ridge wouldn't work, but he said it was a no-go.
