I need to upgrade my pos walmart tripod, but Im not ready to invest several hundo. Anyone using this tripod with their dslrs? It looks ok for the price, and not too heavy for backpacking.

I haven't read over all of this, and it's a pretty old article, but it seems helpful in deciding what to purchase.

Of course his basic philosophy is, "I can save you at least US$700: just buy the right stuff the first time."
Which doesn't sound exactly like what you're looking for, but it's worth the time to read it through anyway. I should look into tripods, I have a 20yr old one that can get pretty annoying every time I use it, head isn't too stable.
thanks micro. I actually read that same article earlier today. I understand his logic, but Im a big enough gear whore as it is and I cant justify the expense.
No problem, I might have gotten the link from these forums so yeah.. haha. I agree though, I'm looking for a new lens too so tripod isn't at the top of my list for big expenses.
