    Job Ideas

I've got a couple good leads on "real" jobs. Ones that pay well, offer security, etc.

However, if these don't work out I'll need to find something to hold me over so I don't lose my house and wife, but mainly so I don't dip into my post-unemployment savings, which I want to use for a bike.

Ideally it would be something interesting. Shitty is fine if it's interesting, too. I'd rather have something shitty and interesting than not shitty and brain-crushingly monotonous.

I'm thinking Office Temp, Day Laborer, Grave Digger, I dunno what else.

    Gimmie some ideas.

    Actually, there's a good idea.

If you play tennis, golf, fly fish, whatever... get a job teaching kids this summer. Fun work, keep you fit, etc.

You could get a job at Fagercrombie & Bitch. Or be the lovable drunken bartender that just sits under the bar sweating profusely while plotting with the fallen floor peanuts. Or just wear a suit around and pretend to be talking on your cell phone while using public transportation. Just make sure toput the phone on vibrate so it doesn't ring while you're having a power meeting.

it's not glamorous, and can put wear-and-tear on an auto- but pizza delivery for an independant shop is a good way to make a decent amount of cash pretty quickly. most small shops will let you work 'under the table' also, which can be advantageous in some circumstances.

Construction Laborer, decent cash, not too mind numbingly monotonous, you're outdoors, just about guaranteed to be smarter than anyone else there, learn some new tricks for fixing up the house, and working with illegals you're pretty much assured of a break around 4:20.

(Actually you'll probably be off by 4:20, but I think you get what I'm saying.)

March on up to REI and take Altachic's place. Then you can spend all your money on gear and get a discount.

The application period for summer seasonal employment with the forest service begins in February and most employers have filled their positions. However, there seems to be a pretty decent number of no-shows as people find better offers at the last minute, decide they don't like the area they will be working, whatever.

Looks like it is going to probably be a more active fire season than last season. If you don't like the idea of being away from the house and family for two weeks at a time, there's lots of jobs in trails construction, timber, fuels, you name it. The pay's not too bad, the work is a lot of fun, and once you get laid off at the end of the season, you can collect funemployment until you're able to find something else.
