Digiorno?? Just kidding.
As many times as I've been to Boston, I've yet to go to Pizzeria Regina. I never made it to Frank Pepe's the summer I lived in Connecticut; but then again I tried to get out of that state as often as I could.
My favorite is probably Gianni's in Framingham, Mass. The owners are from Brooklyn. It's like the best of both worlds. The fresh sauce you get at Boston joints, and the expertise of a New York one.
I heart "I heart" (I Love NY pizza in Troy, NY) as many a slice were eaten on many a drunken night, while in college. It was here that I learned that what I had previously called "average" pizza, was in fact shit.
I have to agree on Papa Gino's. It's not at the top of the list; but it's hands down the best chain pizza there is.
The worst pizza in the world can be found in Maine. It's called Pat's Pizza, and it's a local chain. There's one in my town. How did a place so bad, become a chain? I think I've had worse actually, in one of my classes in college we got pizza for lunch. The pizza was sooo bad (cardboard crust would be a compliment). I think the Professor was friends with the owner. It was such a dillema: free lunch or not having to eat the pizza? It was also such a dissapointment that we could've been getting some of the best pizza ever for free instead of that crap.
Maine has some good places though. Portland Flatbread Company is this yuppy spot, but it's actually a pretty cool place, and the pizza is really good. They have all the fruity varieities you'd find at California Pizza Kitchen, but you can get a plain pie with tomato sauce and it's seriously among the best I've had.
amen on the vermont flatbread company. that place is a pizza oasis stuck out close to the middle of nowhere. mr. mikes is still a go-to spot for late-night pizza in burlington.
there's a local place close to my neighborhood that's awesome... they send out e-mails now and then:

italian-style pies, one size fits all. most authentic pizza i've had outside of my time spent living in florence. i like that style of thin, crispy crust that still has some texture and sweetness to it while not being soggy 'cause of the toppings.
any of you boston folks ever make it out to medford/malden? there's a small neighborhood deli named 'il sogno' that makes a really good, yet still cheap, pizza. they sell some good aranchini as well.

Homerjay, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Acme is no more. For all those who have no idea Acme used to be the premier late night pizza place in State College, PA (Penn State University) It wouldn't open until about 12:00 at night and would close at sometime in the morning. You couldn't actually go in, you just handed your dollar through this little window and the guy would hand you a huge piping hot piece of pizza just out of the oven. Wasn't the best pie ever but when you are there at 2 a.m. and three sheets to the wind you are more concerned with quantity for your buck, and in that they didn't dissapoint. Anyway, with large crowds of drunken college kids comes large amounts of fights (over important stuff like spot in line) and the town decided they didn't like that. So they made an ordinance that outlawed outdoor lines after 12:00 at night which essentially killed ACME's business. They were forced to close and the best pizza place in State College was no more.
Is Crazy Carmine's still open (aka College Pizza)? There was a guy Carmine there who baked a shroom pie for some of my friends. Carmine didn't provide the shrooms, but he ate a slice when it was done. We used to steal slices from there. My friend Tony got ran over by a Cherokee one night as he ran into a parking garage with a stolen slice. He walks out of the parking garage where it happened, tire tracks on his khakis, and he's holding a slice. Managed to hang onto it. Amazing.
The best thing about ACME was that they used to have this huge menu board behind the counter, all sorts of salads, toppings, sandwiches, antipasto, etc. But if you asked for anything other than a plain slice, they were out of it.

Boulder people know that ABO's is the shit, especially at 2 am.
And also especially during that long summer I lived there during the "Pizza Wars" when it seemed every slice was only a buck. (c.'96)
Only a buck? Shit, I remember when Dominic's in Sparta had 2 slices and a coke for a buck. Okay, that was c1972, but I swear it still was the best pizza I ever had.
Delivery or no? Easy answer. Even taking it home yourself killed it. Pizza has to be eaten just at the point where it cools enough to not burn your palate, and not a second later.
And you fools who are bring up Chicago pizza-substatute: Chicago pizza is like a girl with a moustache, good for nothing but reminding you it ain't the real thing.
Louie's in Woobin.
You have to call before 4:00 on Friday to get your order in because the phone goes off the hook at 4:05 and it's no pizza for you after that. But don't tell anyone I told you!
Damn, we're in a tight spot!
The place I spoke of previously, I Love NY Pizza, sold a slice and a coke for a buck during my freshman year in college. It was a huge slice too. 1/8 of an 18" pizza.
In order to cut costs, they put a lot of ice in the soda. My friend had the nerve to ask for a refill because they put so much ice in the soda. A huge slice and a coke for a buck and he was complaining. The next time he went after this incident, he asked for one without ice, so they gave it to him in this tiny cup. Everyone was laughing at him; it was pretty funny.
Best zza in VT is hands down Pie In The Sky in Stowe. Woodfired, its all about the crust.

Myles Pizza- Bowling Green, OH (that's right biatch, ohio)
At myles the dough is made daily and the pies are baked in stone bottom ovens. The sauce is extra heavy pizza sauce, to which Mr. Myles adds salt, pepper, garlic powder and other spices. The sauce is then slow-cooked in good 'ol crock pots for 24hrs. Ahh pizza delivery, those weren't days.
I'm off for some serious help....

Never heard of Cla-Zel (pizza place?) but haven't been back to BG since '93.

No, the Cla-Zel is the old movie theatre downtown. My dad and some friends bought it and renovated it, and now they run movies and live shows.

Okay, I'll chime in, late but what the hell:
All time favorite here:
Pizza Roma (formerly Petrelli's) in ARCADIA, CA.
FYI, good deep dish, w/ a great selection of beer, in TUCSON, AZ can be found here:
Zachery's (adjacent to U of A)
The best pizza I've had yet in NorCAL was in BERKELEY, found here:
Zachary's
As for San Francisco, I haven't yet found a really awesome pie. I don't think Northbeach is all that...
Aliases: B-Dub, B-Dubya, & B. White
Just got back from a weekend in NJ/NY. Pizza report (PR):
As soon as I arrived in Brooklyn on Friday, it was on. First stop: Pino's Pizza in Park Slope. Delicious, foldable, just the right amount of crispiness. Just what I'd expect from a great slice. Then went out to a nice tapas place near Union Square, ate some pizza there, but it was a different type, and cannot really be compared to NY pie.
Saturday: Ate some amazing bagels in the morning, then went to NJ for a wedding. The italian food was terriffic at the wedding, but the double-digit bourbon and ginger ales kind of did me in. Hightlight was seeing an old, fat, bald, italian band lead singer rapping Outkast's "I Like the Way You Move." Saturday was, unfortunately, pizza-less. I did have part of a capicolla sub before the wedding, which has to count for something.
Sunday: Walked past numerous pizza places, including John's on Bleecker, but everyone wanted to go to a nice brunch despite my desire to crush a few slices in the morning. We did manage to go to Arturro's on Houston (and MacDougal, I think?) later in the day for early dinner/late lunch. My friends love it there. It was great, don't get me wrong, and the atmosphere there was terriffic as well. I think I would've preferred your traditional NY pie, though.
So, 2.5 days, 6 slices consumed.
I'm off to New Haven this Wednesday for a conference and hoping to sneak over to Pepe's for a feast before I head home. Much ab-work and an extra lap or two around the block will be done after work in preparation for Wednesday's dietary carnage.
